So when I checked the oil today, noticed some brown sludge on the dip stick. Is this varnish? What should my next course of action be?

BTW the oil is changed regularly at 3k, and this current oil is about 2900mi old.

stop and go driving when it's cold out causes this, change the oil and when it warms up some and the chances of condencation in the block go away the problem will go away.

aaah ok. For some reason in the surbuban the coolant is making some wierd form of sludge.

But now that i think about it, stop and go driving plus turning the car on and off with out proper warm up/cool down time, would also probably contribute to this.
