I am removing my radiator right now and am trying to follow these directions -

http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/Radiator850turbo.htm

but while nice it seems to lack some critical info:

Current critical question - Does the fan come out with the radiator and intercooler?

Thanks.

More questions coming soon unsure.gif

No it stays up there to get in the way when you slide the new radiator up. tongue.gif

Thanks bro.

Umm, what is the easy way to remove the oil cooling line etc? I think needle nose pliers would work, if I could find them (hope I don't need to go to Sears right now).

You need something to pry the clamp open enough so the hose can be pulled off, with out distorting the clamp.

I have a set of "C" clamp pliers, I use the one that when I squeeze the handle the other end pushes put. You could use needle noise pliers, and by opening then it will force the clip open.

Went to Sears...

Anyway got everything off and almost done reinstalling, BUT 3 of the 4 connector type things ie oil cooler, are not very tight anymore. I guess I opened them up too much. Umm, do I have to get new ones? rolleyes.gif

And those Samco hoses are ridiculously TIGHT excl.gif

put a tie wrap on the clamps that works real well to keep them from coming disconnected.

I may be replacing my radiator soon as part of maintenance on my 10 year old 850 turbo.

Question : Are the connectors/clamps for the oil lines the exact same part as for the transmission lines ? I want to make certain I have a set of 4 new connectors and o-rings so that I do not get stucjk on a Sunday without the parts to finish.

They looked exactly the same to me, but maybe double check with Bay13.

Good old fashioned zip ties should work, right?

Japp, I'll be doing this next week to, as my coolant is full of oil.

In another tread someone sad to clean the coolant system with dishwasher detergant.
Then my question is should I clean it with the old radiator inplace as I just disconnect the top coolant hose and then stick the waterhose in the top radiator, start the car and let it flushout, or....

This sounds good, then I'd change the radiator, then one time with water and detergent, then one time with water, then put the coolant in. About all you can do.

Where is the drain plug on the block/head?

Can I stick a hose in the head by thermostat since I have the coolant hoses off and run the hose or is it directional (only asking because of water pump)?

Just got done changing the radiator and flushing the system.
Took me about 5hrs, but I was gone slow and also fixed some other things.

Started with flushing the system with water. Took the top hose of and the bottom which I pull up so it was above the battery. Then I started the car and kept filling water in the overflow. Also mixed detergent in there. And did oil/coolant mix and brown fluid come out. Flushed it for about 10min and then I changed out the radiator and did a fast flush with the new radiator in place just incase there where something in the new radiator.
Probably going to run it for a week and then do another flush, but this time I'm going to put detergent in there and run with it for a day or two before I flush it to really get all that oil/coolant mud mix out because I could see some that was left in there.

I used regulare dishwasher detergent, Cascade with lemon, was what I had at the moment.
Make sure that you flush all the detergent out of the system. That's why I'm going to flush my system again in a week to really make sure it is all out + see if I can get the last of the mud mix out.
