Problem not solved. Still mysterious, still intermittent, and in this case, one has to be careful that we are not talking about different noises from different ailments. Cold weather, again, the cause of the noise in the first place. That helps pinpoint the problem (wet weather, cold weather, what mechanical item works or doesn't work or is affected by weather on startup?).

So I have a "Whining Noise " on cold start ups and I did a search which lead me here. I was wondering if any one has found the problem or cause to this noise?

I found the diagram on this tread to check the air pump on the driverside under the airbox/battery tray. It seams to me that in my case the noise is coming from the air pump. My question is what is this air pump used for? If i where to remove or disconnect power to it will this cause any problems. The diagram heading is "Emission control with air pump" will I fail Emission test?
