I don't know what is so hard to understand about us not wanting any political threads about the ETM issues in this maintenance forum. If you have a ETM issue that you are not sure about, ie need diagnostic help, post away! If you have a new article in TIME mag, or the NY post, take it to OT and post your heart out! Just don't do that in THIS FORUM. rolleyes.gif

Made an appointment last night to go do the ETM update at Volvo. This was a service performed for free at the dealership. Took about 30 min total in and out time (they were not too busy).
The results are not too bad at all. I didn't expect to feel any difference, really, but i did, and still do. It is almost as if the car has more pep (for lack of better word)...like it can pull just a little bit more. Also noticed that the iddle does not seem to drop down so quick while coasting and getting off the gas.

overall, it was a good experience. if anyone has not taken advantage of this, go do it soon.

PS: Thanks to Fastboy512 for making me aware of this offer and passing all the important info to me. Thanks G.!!!

When I perform recall 155 I download the software If there is a white sticker on the ETM I try to get it covered (white sticker are early ones) One of the problems, the PCV system when the system gets clogged usually from lack of maintance, oil gets into the intake system causing the ETM to get loaded with oil. As far as performance maybe dry.gif but the download is only for the ETM SN 30677023.. So many of these cars has new ETM's and will have a yellow sticker on them..

I had my ETM well TB replaced not so long ago, before official extended warrenty came out, had the an upgrade done and felt a noticable difference - much stronger, especially mid to high rpm range.

Beware those with IPD ECU upgrades getting the new Volvo software downloads. Scott over at IPD is currently still trying to figure out if the Volvo software over-writes the IPD/TME codes. Will know shortly. So, if you do have an IPD upgraded ECU, you might want to hold off until further notice.

i contacted IPD a while back and told them I was interested in eventually getting an Upgrade form them, but asked about the issue of the ETM replacement. I was told that all i have to do is send the ECU back and they will re-flash it for free (i pay shipping, though) whenever that ETM thing comes up...

not sure if i should trust that...FREE?

if you call having your car off the road for a couple of days 'free' then... yeah. i personally wouldn't screw with a 1 grand ECU investment without guarentees. if the ETM software overwrites the IPD software, does the IPD software then overwite the ETM software? i'm waiting for them to figure it out.

what cars is this ETM upgrade available for? Also, is there maybe like an official Volvo website that explains what is up with the ETM, and what they are changing?
I AM NO LONGER AT THIS LOCATION! PM ME AT VIPERVETTE, THAT IS 2Ts, NOT 3.

Exactly. I would be suspiscious of this myself. If the ETM code is seperate from the ignition/fuel portion, it shouldn't matter. So the fact that the ETM flash jacks the MTE flash, tells me that the MTE reflash will just overwrite the ETM code you just had done!

So thats what the IPD Upgrade does...rewrite the ETM programs?

This is good info...I have been considering getting an IPD, but have been back and fourth on it...still have not made a definate decision, as the Civinco is now available, and i hear different hings about differnet systems, etc.
It will be a bit until I do an ECU upgrade, so I have a little time.

have you contaced Upsolute about that?
