The driver's door is sagging on my 850. It has play in it so that I can move it vertically back and forth about a 1/4 inch or so. I loosened the bolts that hold the door in place and lifted the door with a floor jack to raise it some, but it still not enough. It's bad enough that the slight droop has ruined the bottom door seal (torn it to pieces). Are there any shims or spacers that are worn that can be replaced? What is causing it to sag? Thanks.

I'd take the car to an auto body. Looking at the hinges I don't see too much as far as adjustments go. What caused the sagging to begin with?

On an old(ish) car like this it could be that the hinges themselves are bent.
Ive even seen cases where the hinges had bent the mounting points, causing a situation where even a new door would be hanging low.
Take it to a body shop or take a close look at all that to see if the hinges are bent, or if the metal backing has fatigued.
you could always try and make some spacers. Ive used thin UHMW Polyethylene as a spacer in similar applications and it would work great if a spacer is whats needed. It's not impossible to come by either, but if you cant find some, other tough plastics should work also. The benefit with plastics is you can cut them with cheaper tooling and dont need to be a machinist.

Hinges aren't bent. The door is loose in the hinges (I can move it up and down about a 1/4" or so). The other doors do not move up and down. I'm assuming the hinge shaft is wearing which is causing the play. What I'd like to know is if the shaft uses a spacer/bushing that can be replaced or do the entire hinges need to be replaced.

without having it here to look at my best quess would be the hinges. or a hinge bushing/pin

yeah, I've looked at it but cannot tell if it uses a bushing or not. I had a Volvo dealer fax me a copy of the VADIS diagrams for the door (not very useful b/c the hinge assembly is listed as one part even though there are multiple pieces to it).
Taking the door off looks to be a real PITA, but it may be to only way that I'm going to get an answer to my questions.

It is very common to see hinge pins wear out on other older cars. If this is what's happen to yours, it's the first I've heard of it.
