he gave me some reason why it could of taken a while for the ecu to become a problem. My car also has a problem with the trac abs signal coming on off and on. not sure if related problem or not

Your ECU problem is a problem. When you look up the part number for a 1996 ECU there are seven different numbers that show up, about half of them are for the 1995T5 R, the others aren't. If you didn't buy the car new, it's hard to say when the ECU got swapped. How did you do the IPD upgrade? Did you mail yours to them or did they send you one and then you sent yours in? Give them a call and let them know you are getting EGR codes and you don't have EGR they may be able to help.

If the 95's aren't fully compliant, why is there a sticker on the hoods of both my and my wife's '95 850's saying that the care is OBD-II compliant? Are you referring to the proprietary codes or to generics?
My code reader works great for the generics--for the cost difference between the generic reader and the manufacturer's version, I'm ok with that.
But I am curious about your statement.

why the jump to talking about OBD II compliance? The OBD II thing has nothing to do with the ECU directly, If it "is" OBD II then the ECU has been programmed as such, and the wiring has been set up to read "P" codes, if not then you can't. If you have a 1995 that says OBD II compliant then you could more than likely get a P code reader, and plug it in and the OBD II reader would read the P codes.
The problem with the EGR codes showing up (and there is no EGR) is that the programming in the ECU is incorrect for the set up of the car. I know one of the board members that had a speed tunning chip in his 1997 and it kept setting EGR codes and his car physically doesn't have EGR, (I looked at it and verified it didn't) Eventually the problem was worked out with software changes to the ECU.

It's funny, we start talking about all this on here (I had the lights come on twice before this but only for alittle while) crap starts happening. I was driving back from my girl's house tonight and I was just cruisn at 70 and the ABS and tracs light came on and stayed on. How much does it cost to replace the ABS module or whatever?
