i'm going to pick up a torque wrench prior to me doing a bunch of maintenance stuff (ie. plugs, sway bar links, etc) next weekend.
which type do you guys use?
"click" type?
"guage" type?
what brand?
what ft lb range?
i am by no means a pro, it will be used maybe 5 times a year, do i need to blow a bunch of cash on MAC or other name brands?
thanks

Clicks are the best IMO, I hate the cheep crapsman gauged torque wrenches. You need to decide if you want inch pounds or foot pounds and what range you need(you will hardly use the inch pounds on general maint. stuff). You buy a really nice one on www.toolsource.com!
As for range, try to find the one with broadest range. A cheap one from pepboys should do you just fine!

I'm clueless when it comes to which torque wrench is the best. I bought mine about 3 years ago from Sears for about $100.00 I bought it because it looked pretty
. It has a dial in the handel. I've only use it for when I rotate my tires.

I got one for $30 from AutoZone....some brand like "Great Neck" or something. Works good for me it's the click type. You spin the bottom of the handle to set to ft. lbs. or newtons (newtons? maybe something else) and then screw in something to hold in in that place. Start pushing and wait for the click. Works great as a breaker bar too, even though they specifically say to not use it as one...

I got one at Kragen for $30, whatever their brand is... Lifetime warranty, micrometer adjustment, 5-110 ft lb... overall a quite nice torque wrench.

awesome, that is exactly the feedback i needed. i was leaning toward the click type, but just needed the push. spark plugs are 18 ft lbs and wheel lugs are 81 ft lbs so i guess the 10-100 range would do me. any more than 100 i and i can use an impact gun.
and gdogg, milton waddams rules btw.

Home Depot sells a nice 3/8" TW made by Husky for $60. It'll do from 20-100 ft. lbs. There have been a few times though that I've wanted a smaller one for tighter jobs.

Snap-ons r great. I used to have one. I bought it when I started working as a body man and later found no use of it. so I sold mine on Ebay.

Go to Advance Auto Parts and buy an AmPro 1/2" torque wrench...lifetime guarantee, only $40 I believe. I've used it on my caliper brackets and wheels, and it works fine. Has a dial at the bottom...haven't run into any problems yet.
