Not quite as high as I had hoped, but the car drives SO much better now. This is on 17psi... we tried to turn the boost up, but the boost would spike and trigger over boost protection cutting fuel. Maybe time for a boost controller? I'm currently using the stock BCS.

I got a vid that i'm uploading right now too..

I was going to post the dyno sheet when the boost spiked, but the file seems corrupted so i'll have to get him to email it to me, It hit like 381whp before the ecu cut fuel laugh.gif

Nice #'s, I was thinking closer to 350 but you got that on torque. Dyno-Dynamics read crazy low.
Now take it to a Dynojet and your #'s will look like Doug's laugh.gif
My car does the same fuel cut with the stock BCS, more PID tuning will cure that.
I'm going to use a Greedy BCS from my old boost controller, better response and bleeds off at a faster rate.

By the way, what's your injector duty cycle now?
Good job.

What boost level does it cut out with the bcs? I really wished i'd logged the bcs duty cycle.

nice run Mark, i would guess 380 would actually be more on target, perhaps with a bit more boost, either way nice to see the car running good

Great numbers for the boost man!! 17 psi, that's way to low, this turbo STARTS to shine around 20-21 psi, and there's no doubt you're motor can take it, Just for comparison purposes, with my 3071R, I put down 290whp at 15 psi, and 330 whp at 18 psi, 40 whp diffrence for 3 pds more boost, 380@20 psi, no need for a sheet, I beieve ya! Car spools like an Airbus, sounds great!! see you on the highway tongue.gif

It's been a while.

Because of the problem with boost spiking over 17psi, I have been using direct control of the BCS duty cycle through Nira instead of open loop control or closed loop PID. I honestly just haven't had time to try going back and mess with it. Currently with a consistent duty cycle of 66%, it gives me about 20 psi which is just...well, violent. I laugh because when I log any pulls, I feel as though the car is just about to take flight, only to read the logs later and see that throttle position was only 50-60% I actually had to check the calibration because I was sure it was incorrect, but it was spot on.

I'll post more of an update tomorrow, I just wanted to get my thread going again so it will encourage me to get out and do more tuning. My wife and I just had our second child (A little boy on Feb 19th) so I have had barely any sleep, let alone time to work on the car.

Congratulations on your baby boy :) I can only imagine how violent it would be when you're putting down such big numbers on a heartbreaker dyno already.. B)

 Congrats :D

I look forward to when you do get time to work on your car, your engine build is one of my favorites on the forum. With how you have the BCS set up, the turbo is still spooling around 4000rpm? :D

I had a bit of time on Friday and Saturday to make some adjustments. First was to address the idle, which had a tendency to become a bit unsettled when the car was fully warmed up. Playing with the IAC PID tables, I was able to get it pretty dialed in. When I got to the first stop sign, I actually wondered if the car had shut off. :)

The other thing I have been battling is a feeling like power dropping off the more I revved it out. I have the QBM cam timing tool and recently advanced the exhaust cam. I moved it from -2 to +3 or 4. The result was a big improvement in off boost power, with what felt like a smoother boost transition and a better power band. Top end may have suffered slightly. This adjustment also threw off my AFRs, making things a bit leaner off boost and through the boost transition.

I have been thinking for a while that I need more timing in the upper RPMs after the torque peak. I gradually introduced up to 2 degrees between 5200 and 7500 and the improvement was immediately noticeable. Here is the log of a 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear pull where I stayed in it a bit longer than usual in 4th. Again, throttle position tops out at 50% and I didn't even hit 6000pm. wtf!?

Posted Image

I'm sure that part of the problem with it not revving out is my "fear" of putting my foot to the floor. I am conscious of the fact that I feather it in 2nd because I am always trying to maintain traction. This feathering seems to carry on into 3rd, 4th and 5th though. Maybe I should turn the boost down and see what happens. A Quaife would help too I think.

The last thing I tried was to retard the intake cam by 2 degrees to 0, as others have said that this setting really works well for them. (0 deg intake, +3 or 4 exh). With this setting, it feels as though I lost a bit of bottom end and consequently my nice feeling powerband and boost transition is also not as prominent. Boost seems very much the same, although I need some more time behind the wheel to really get a good idea. Of course, the weather has now gone to shit and the forcast this week is much the same.

Nira has an autofuel function which will help to illeviate any discrepancy between the desired lambda value and the reading from the wideband. It's really only for fine tuning the fuel, although you can use it to help you start out if you like. You can run it over and over until you are satisfied with the results. You can set the tolerances and ultimately decide how much you want it to change the values, if at all after each session. The idea is to hold the pedal steady so that it gets accurate reads from the different cells you are trying to hit.

It was actually my first time using this function in the 3 years of owning the system. I found it really helped keep the AFRs right where I wanted them, although not so much in the boost portion of the map. It's hard to hold the MAP/RPM value steady when driving down the road. It would certainly come in handy when on a load bearing dyno.

As it stands, I know I need to take a little fuel out of my higher boost/RPM cells and smooth out the ignition some more. I also want to lower the boost and try revving it out some more once the weather cooperates.
