Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy a 2001 V70 T5 with 60K miles on it. The owner states everything is fine although he did have to sign an acknowledgement form when he bought it from a Volvo dealer that it had been bought back by Volvo because of the "check engine light" being on. They extended the warranty. He had the electronic throttle control recall work done 2 weeks ago and the lights are out. I would love to buy this car as it looks great and runs great. Does anyone know if this was most likely the cause for the Volvo Buyback in June of 2004? I have read alot about the ETC problem and how a recall has been issued for it. Do you all think I am safe to buy this car that was issued a buyback by Volvo but appears to be due to this ETC problem?
Finally, it is a V70 T5. Any other issues I should be aware of? Edmunds gives the car a private party selling price as $13,800. They were offering it at $11,000 but have agreed to sell for $9,700 because they are leaving the country for an assignment and dont want to store it for a long time. The individual is very reputable, this is not a dealer selling the car. I hate to let such a bargain slip by!

Thanks very much in advance!

I bought one 6 months ago. i paid $14K Aussie for it and have spent nearly half that again on fixing stuff. I still don't regret buying it though as the closest comparable purchase at the time was about $22K. I may have spent that much now but at least i know what i've had fixed has been fixed. I'll give a quick rundown of what i've had done.

MAJOR service all fluids and filters plugs etc
3 new engine mounts
Control arm bushings
Steering stops
Transmission flush
Software upgrades
Rear main seal
4 new tyres
Speed sensors

Still haven't quite got my transmission/throttle talking to each other properly. Next step is MAF/more software or o2 sensors

that car is really expensive for a buyback. Nice, reliable 01 T5's go for that price.

and plus you will have problems until that car hits the junkyard....stay away!

I have one and its freaking AWSOME , I paid 13,000 for it a month ago with 39,000 on it , bought it off of ebay

only has 40,000 miles on it, and I have had it for 2,000 miles and the MAF just went bad last week .

other then that nothing , my uncle has the exact same car and he has 115,000 on his and nothing wrong with his car at all other then tires and nothing else.

As long as it has the software upgrades and the Trans been check out go for it , if not let me know and I will buy it lol

if its a buyback, usually that means that it went back for the same isuue more than once or twice. I doubt they bought it back out of the goodness of their hearts, but b/c the law requires it.

there are always the gremlins but in a situation like that the dang gremlins just wouldn't leave.

avoid it and look for another 01v70 if thats the car for you

I'm thinking about purchasing a C70 convertible and have a choice between 2001 with 35,000 and a 2003 with 70,000. I see from CARFAX that the 2001 has had the electrical serviced 3 xs and the electrical recall by Volvo. Any suggestions?

My best guess it doenst matter on the C70 on either of those years due to neither of those years were first year models for that car unlike the v70 in 01 wich I have the completely over hauled the car so it was a first year car wich tends to have more problems then normal

knock on wood I have had any real ones so who knows but mine only has 43,000 on it so far
