Go the skid plate last week and tried to install it but gave up. Does anyone have any pointers on how to put in the rear bolts? You have to hold the lock nut with washer in a small slot of the subframe (if I had 10 inch fingers I could probably do it) and then tighten the bolt from below. I couldn't do it and gave up. Anyone done this? If so, can you tell me how?

i threw everything ecept the bolts away on the S80 and it fit fine. maybe if you put the bolt in pointing down from the top (where you can't get the lock net and wacher), then put the locknut and wash on the bottom? alter alternatively you can do the same thing but put another lockut and washer immedialte on the chassis, and the skid plate and put a final locknut and washer under the bottom of the skid plate... got a picture?

Yeah! I think I gotcha....I just didn't want it to stick down so much but putting the washer between the skidplate and the chasis should take care of that! Thanks! What did you do about the long white spacer on the driver's front side...seemed way too long and the little short one they also sent seems way too short. Did you throw both away? Seems there would be a bare bolt with wind hitting it...I guess that's okay, but thought it might create a whistle sound.

i put mine on nearly a year ago... i know i checked the plastic spacers and just went for the flush fit. i have a pile of bolts at the time wether i used to supplied ones or the correct length i've long forgotten. make sure you can do the filter and oil change without removing the plate. that was the biggest concern smile.gif

btw even with the effictive higher placement, i still have gouges and scrapes in mine. glad i have it; as i lower the car at the same time smile.gif

Thanks for your in-put...I think I won't use any spacers and see how it goes. I have an IPD skidplate on my S70 and I know what you mean about scrapes and gouges. That's what prompted me to get one for the V70 too...that and that fact that mine didn't even come with the plastic cover on the bottom....what's with that?

it either rotted and fell off (this happened on one of my old 240's). or someone doing an oil change forgot to reinstall it...

Yeah, that's what I thought...I've done all of the oil changes that the dealer didn't do under warranty. I told my dealer that and they told me that maybe mine didn't have one to begin with....what's with that?

the story i heard was there is a local shop near IPD that builds them. they're likely to be able to stamp most anything out. either way, that's what i heard from IPD when i ordered mine.

Depending on the year, a skidplate for a S70 will fit yours. Well worth it in my opinion.

on the s80 there is a plastic cover that needs to be taken off every time to get to the canister and plug. I believe on the s70, the cover does not prevent you from getting to the plug or filter.

No, it's different than the air guide...I believe it goes behind it.

I'm not talking about the S70...I have one of those too, but I'm talking about the V70 ('04). There is suppose to be a plastic plate that you have to take off for this car too, but the skid plate takes its place and has cut outs so you don't have to remove it to take care of these things.

Okay, I got it installed today. The reason I waited so long was because it was soo damn cold.
Finally up to 45degrees today. Anyway, I didn't use the white spacers in the front but the one on the side that is suppose to use the real long one (too long), I used 2 of the small ones stacked together. Then I used a spanner with the brass colored disc and nut taped to it to go in the frame. This way I could see up through the skidplate hole and put a bolt right up through the hole and thread it. This worked very nicely and I didn't need 10 inch fingers. So if anyone is dealing with this, try taping the nut and disc that goes inside the frame (small opening) onto a spanner and it will work fine. It also helps to have the right 14 and 16mm spanner and socket (bolt head is smaller than the nut that goes on it).... cool.gif

Again, S70 is different blink.gif blink.gif It's actually straight forward and a piece of cake. I guess my picture (signature) confuses everyone. I was talking about the skidplate install on my wife's '04 V70. It's another story.
