Best case would be Renault or Hyundai. Worst case would be GM

I heard that GM was buying Volvo. That way they can rebadge an S60 as a new Pontiac/Buick/Chevy... and give Volvos crappy interiors. Then they'll put the Ecotech engines in Volvos, and the new XC90 will be a Chevy Blazer with new badges.

And I bet some of you think that I'm kidding!

So not only can I say I drive a pre-ford, I can say I drive a pre-whoever buys out volvo.

Honestly though, I will run screaming if Hyundai or however you spell em buys.

or gm. Volvos across the world will have peeling paint! and what once was known as being a very reliable car....well...I somehow doubt you'd see a hyundai OR GM volvo with as many clicks on it as mine.

Hey guys, it's not speculation anymore...
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle2080527.ece

What is still specualtion is who. I have mixed feelings about BMW and Renault both, simply because I am not really a fan of Nissan. In BMWs case I do not see at all how Volvo would fit under their corporate umbrella. BMWs compete with Volvo (at least in theory) and it just wouldn't shake down well I don't think. I am not really a fan of the Hyundai notion either, simply because it's Hyundai. I know they are improving by leaps and bounds all the time it seems, but still.

Volvo Penta...that would be cool.

Renault owns a majority of Nissan, IIRC. That's what fasts60r is referring to.

BMW has some sort of partnership with Peugeot-Citroen, but afaik there's not much of a connection between Nissan-Renault and BMW.

Any reason why it'd be great if BMW was the buyer?

Wouldn't they focus more on saftey with the company and cut the performance lines like Ford was doing?

They would not let Volvo compete with their flagship cars so throw away your M5 powered S80 dreams. Volvo would be the bastard stepchild economy car. Owned by Kia or Haundai on the other hand they would be the upper level trim line. Renault could go either way.

No.

...and ford wasnt cutting the perfomance lines. All of their models were generally fast, they made T5-M models possible to find, and they put 300hp and a 6-speed in the R models.

for some strange reason I prefer five speeds.

Maybe I'm wierd. And maybe it's cause five is what I'm used to give me a six and I go wtf?!?! what is this extra gear??? this isn't reverse!!! (no, actually, I haven't done that...don't worry)

So I was right with my generalized assumption that BMW buying Volvo wouldn't be great. So who knows why everyone here is hoping for BMW. And a M5 powered S80 dream is just retarded. Buy the M5 at that point.

Someone shout if I'm wrong, but didn't they just annouce that they slashed the R line? And instead, will offer an R-look as a package, but without the power?
And sure they had a 300hp car... with just a hair more WHP than a T5M smile.gif AWD Drivetrain loss FTL

N00b!

I started with 4 speeds, and I have driven 3! Never driven a 6 speed, at least in a car.

On topic: It looks like we will have to wait a few weeks before knowing the answer of who, or even if it was actually sold. Renault seems more likely than BMW after doing some research. If Hyundai do buy it, it would take months to complete because of all the parts Volvo supplies to Ford.

They are hoping for a RWD performance Volvo.
