So I bought this ECU off of ebay UK. It came off of an 850 T5 manual police car. According to the ad, there is a possibility that the chip was possibly chipped. I took some pictures here and I was wondering three things.

1. Can someone confirm that 851 ecu is truly a T5 manual ecu?

2. From the pictures, is there evidence of "chippage" wink.gif

3. Is there someone somewhat local to me (currently) that has a swapped 850 Turbo manual that I could put the ECU into to make sure it works? I just want to make sure its not a dud before I do all the work.

I'll pop the top off of mine next week and compare.

Did you make sure that it came from a car with AC ? If not, say buh-bye to your AC controls.

In my opinion and from things that I've seen until today this kind of ecus have and a chip changed when are upgraded. As I can see your chip must be the OEM.What I mean is that it should have a chip on a base if I say it correct in order to take it off simply.

Yeah, thats why when I looked at my Speedtuning chip you couldn't tell. I believe those are just flashed.
I contacted the seller and the car has already been smashed at the salvage yard.... lol , but she said she thought it had AC. I have the license plate number from the car in the UK, not sure if I can find out from that though.

I have seen 5 upgraded ECUs and they all had another chip, that's why I said from things that I've seen,I wasn't sure if this method(flashing)was used to these models. smile.gif smile.gif

Is there anyone out in the New England area that has a manual 850 Turbo that I could plug this thing into?

It's anyone's guess here.

Typically though, most people who have reflashes done have sockets put in during this time in order to allow for an easier time when a reflash is due later on. Yours doesn't have a socket on it.

The solder joints look almost exactly like factory, and not done by someone else.

My guess is not reflashed.

Yeah, I figured that when I looked at how clean the solder joints looked.

Right now, my main priority is just to see if this works fine in an 850 Turbo manual with AC. I believe the people who sent it to me, but I just want to make sure before starting a big project like this........ anyone in New England????

or..
anyone running an 851 ecu?

Have you been in England ? Air isn't exactly needed there.

Hey, just run it in your car, you can run a manual ECU in an auto without negative side effects. That way, you can test the AC and see for yourself.

If the AC doesn't kick in immediately, stop the car and pull the ECU. It would take more than a few seconds to fry the controls. PM if you want more details about all this.

based on my experience buying and selling these most ex-plod cars from the UK came with AC. Volvos usually are highway patrol or "nicer" patrol vehicles, and most had A/C.

Checked the pinned threads - any reason to switch to the T5 orange injectors over the red ones in my v70? - can't find the flow rate for them in the pins...
