2001 V70, 140,000 miles. When I'm stopped, I take my foot off the brake pedal, the transmission doesn't engage until a second or two later. Is this something I have to live with, is the tranny going bad? Is there any fix for this?

If while stopped, I shift it to neutral, then drive, then take my foot off the brake pedal, there is no hesitation, like I think it should operate.

Thanks

Its the stop neutral problem that destroys the trannys .

I had mine changed when I got the car at 34,000 miles

Its worth every penny to get done and should solve the problem.

I would while your there do a software upgrade on everything , that helped my car in fuel milage also .

went from 20-22 to 24+ consistanly .

Also any of you have your ETM changed or anything ?

I had mine cleaned at 42,000 and it still acts funny once and awhlle at 57,000 , what the car now has for milage.

I cleaned out my etm this past summer, and the summer before. That resolved the bad idle problem I was having.

Also went to volvo to get etm software upgrade like 1-2 years ago, and Im pretty sure they changed the stop neutral thing. However, it did not resolve anything (from what I read it did not resolve much for others either).

I may have to drop by the stealer and get some software upgrades, but of course then I get to hear the service guy tell me "it looks like one of your end links is bad too, we can replace it for $100".

How about the transmission mount? see if it's worn, had mine replaced at 99.5K, big difference, got the QBM heavy duty one, can't be happier.

im pretty sure the TCM software DOES eliminate the neutral control....if it didnt fix it they put in the wrong software....a few years ago there was a seperate part # for it but now i believe it is included in the standard upgrade...

also you will have a problem that happens when shifting from p to r, r to d or p to d. if it takes a second to engage you need a new valvebody if you want to fix that.

Why do you call them the "stealership"? would you rather pay for a new trans?

You have to specifically tell them to turn the neutral safe off, or they won't do it. 01 automatic trannys are junk...

I'll take a look at it again. what should I be looking for to see if its worn? I have a laundry list of this to do to my car once spring comes, I would really like for it to drive like new smile.gif

Grab a hold of it and twist it. If there is excessive play, then it's bad. Mine was so bad when I took the two bolts off the frame side, it almost fell off.

because they overcharge on everything else. Ask anyone on here if they don't agree with that statement. For instance, $40 for a piece of metal (oil filter adapter) while everyone else selling it for $7 or less.
I wanted an EVO but ended up with EVO chassis only

$800 rear brake job, $750 timing belt job, $1000 for rebuilt turbos. Just some examples of why it's the stealership.

Took car in yesterday. They upgraded the TCM software, part number 30677036. It has made all the difference in the world. Now off to change the tranny fluid.
