I would figure on the little shield on the turbo models wouldn't really be for icing, since the air path would have to go through the turbo which warms it up. I would suspect it protects against water splashes and hydro locking more than icing issues.

I also encountered a problem with the part number 8251319 as well. The brake pads don't fit in them. I had to grind and sand down the sides just to make the pads fit and I think I may have messed it up a little too (since I do get a occassional brake groan when hot) so i'm already planning to order the 8602456 part to replace the current ones.
