I have searched but can't find a def answer.i know the head will bolt on no problem but wasn't sure about combustion chamber sizes per head. I think the 02 and up heads have the modified coolant and oil passages already but I will find out for sure when I tear this engine down..I've read that post a bunch but still had some questions

heads are the same, pistons determine compression. VVT cam CANNOT be put into non-VVT head without some work. Search is your friend. Past posts have noted that if you use the head gasket for the block, any head will fit, may just need to drill a small hole in head to match gasket (and I mean one of the very small holes for water, not one of the large water passages.) Thus you should probably use the '02 head with the later block.

You need to remove cover over shifter..which you just pry up. The. There are two screws at the bottom of the ccm. Remove those and pull it out

You could swap heads for a bolt on affair, everything else will match up. Plus you could steal the 06 exhaust manifold which is the same as the P2R.

Of course since you're a Volvo tech, I'm sure this came naturally.

well the car has the 2.3 head which i dont think are anywhere close to mating to the 2.5 block(which i could be wrong

also the exhaust mani is gone..but i have one laying here from my old xc90

you not a fan of dealer techs? seem to feel some sort of tension about me being a tech?

i know everything on outside will bolt up but this will be my first mixed matched swap...i know everything i need to know except for the heads which i will figure out i guess when i rip them both apart..

i think the cooling ports are different from what i here but seeing is believing... and not sure about the maching on the front of the head..if they are machined for cvvt on both or if you can put a non cvvt cam in place of the cvvt intake cam

most likely your going to need a need a new 603..i had one in a 04 that was doing the exact thing she didnt notice the lights not working but came in bc the steering controls didnt work..when i pulled car into shop i noticed the back light was also out..

one thing to also check is that software has been loaded into it..if someone replaced it and didnt download software it will cause same issue..there was a tech journal about it couple months back
