Xr Hood Vents

10 April 2012 - 03:04 AM

I thought I had a thread discussing this, but cannot find it... EDIT, found it

Finally got around to cutting the hood & installing the Elevate vents. Set them as far back & out as is possible without compromising the inner framework.

took about 12 dremel cutting discs. Tried a angle grinder, but it burns the paint too much...

had to cut the inner lateral support

passenger side I drilled the tab holes before cutting, easier that way

both sides - just ordered 5 sheets of 18x32" Dynamat Extreme - don't want to put my crusty hood insulation back...

grilles installed - think I will have to remove & paint the lip - not sure I like the silver inner edge that's visible

Installing & Connecting External Wastegate With Apexi Avc-R Controller

04 April 2012 - 01:32 PM

Trying to make sure I have all the correct connections for this ahead of time.

The Tial Directions state that the vacuum supply be BEFORE the TB - which means NOT in the intake manifold, even though they illustrate it as such. Doesn't make sense.

Also not clear if the top & upper side port are the same. I tried pulling vacuum on it with my MityVac, but couldn't tell.

Installation issue is that the Valve Seat (insert) protrudes from the base, so the spring has to be compressed in order to get the V-Band clamp in place on the Header dump - not happening in the location I have it. I tried applying vacuum to draw the valve 'open', but I only have the hand-vacuum pump, which clearly doesn't work for this. Curious how others have dealt with this situation...

Air Box Design

02 March 2012 - 03:35 PM

Trying to decide whether to remake my airbox. Filter is a K&N RX-4730 extreme (3" inlet); The current casing is about 6.5" OD, with a slight taper, 3" inlet snorkel. There isn't actually much space between the filter & the casing. What I observe is that the filter gets very dirty around the air inlet, and not so much over the rest of the pleating. Functionally, seems to be OK, just not really happy with the level of finish.

Not much room for a larger can, but 7" should just fit.

While I'm cleaning up everything else in the bay for the new build, I'm thinking about making a nice Aluminum casing, same design, just 7" OD, with a slight taper, to provide a little more breathing space around the filter element.

What I'm not sure about is whether making the casing out of aluminum is a good idea (heat retention?), and secondly, whether additional room around the filter actually makes any difference to the full filter surface area being utilized.
