  1. Parts For Turbo Swap

    Posted 7 Jul 2009

    I am looking for:

16T turbo w/angled flange (or maybe an 18T)
    R Manifold
Angled flange downpipe from a 99+ to fit an 854 stock exhaust (no AWD)

The prices I am willing to pay are based on what shape the parts are in, but budget is a concern for me so I am not looking for perfection here. I am willing to pick up parts anywhere near Indianapolis, IN or Cincinnati, OH.

    Thanks for the help!

  2. Downpipe For Turbo Swap

    Posted 3 Jul 2009

So I finally will have time to pull my tired old 15G out of my 1996 854 Turbo w/stage 1 tune in about a month, and I am definitely looking to upgrade. What I would like to do is get a 16T (or maybe an 18T if the right one comes along) with an angled flange, and attach that to an R manifold and use the stock angled downpipe and cat from a newer car to bolt up to the rest of my stock exhaust. I really can't install a loud aftermarket exhaust right now. A cutout may find its way into the new downpipe but I'm still on the fence about that. I've breifly looked into having a downpipe made with the correct flanges, but that seemed pricy, and I'm a poor college student haha.

Basically, my question is, will this work? Can I take the stock angled flange downpipe from another car and bolt that up to the rest of my stock exhaust? I have never seen the exhaust from a 99+ so I don't know if it will match up. From the pictures I have seen they look similar but I don't know if it is exact.

If this will work and you happen to have any of these parts laying around let me know, I am looking to start buying soon. Thanks for the help!

  3. Straight Or Conical Flage?

    Posted 13 May 2009

Hello all, I am having some trouble determining if my turbo (stock 15G) had the straight or conical flange. I have a '96, so I always assumed I had a straight flange, but looking at these pictures I now think I might have one of the unlucky '96's with a conical. The car is my daily, so I can't take it off and look at it. Looking at the flanges on both, the conical seems to have less material around the edge of the flange (see pic in pinned modifying FWD Volvo) and it looks most like the one on my car sad.gif

I was planning to install a straight flange 16T since my turbo is burning through a fair amount of oil, but I guess if I have a conical flange I would need a new DP to run the 16T?

I know a good 3" DP is a much better option, but the cost combined with the fact that my neighbors don't appreciate a healthy exhaust note nearly as much as I do have encouraged me to put that off for a while. I don't hit max boost often, so I am not as worried about heat for now.

Porting and polishing a rebuilt conical 15G is pretty much a waste of time right (high potential for cracking)?

I am not looking to spend a lot right now, I will be starting an engine build in about a year. I just need something inexpensive to last about 2 years.

    Thanks for the help
