  1. Turbosmart Eboost2 Installed

    Posted 2 Nov 2009

I finally had my TurboSmart Eboost2 EBC installed Friday at my dyno shop, and WOW!!!! In 2nd gear the boost comes on like crazy, I can't say enough of how well the boost comes on. My car kind of scared of me after the motor rebuild and how fast the boost came on, but now it really makes me nervous. I had the IPD HDTCV on before, but WOW, this boost controller really makes the boost come on quicker and stronger.

For now, I have the boost set to 15psi. At the dyno shop the guru started tuning the EBC with boost starting at 17.5psi and was getting misfires, could hear them, and the dyno charts showed them. The tuner dialed the boost down to 12psi and the car sounded fantastic, but we settled on 15psi for now. The car's horsepower rating was 282HP and the tuner wasn't even pushing it, we were focused on tuning the EBC. However, the tuner told me I needed new plugs (only have 6K on the Bosch OEM plugs), so I installed new NGK plugs today and also ordered a one step colder NGK plug. I've also got the shift light installed and WOW that sure helps remind me when to shift (at 5300rpm). The first time I had the car dyno'd I would get boost fade at high boost levels, but now with the EBC we were able to fix that and now the boost pressure holds steady at 15psi, and also helps make up for the IC weep hole. I really like this TurboSmart EBC and I'm sure once we tune it more it will be fantastic.

Once I get the colder NGK plugs I'm going to go back to the dyno shop (2 weeks maybe) and have them tune the EBC for 17psi and see which NGK plugs are best.
  2. My Dyno Charts

    Posted 21 Sep 2009

Ok, so here's the dyno charts from last Friday. The dyno was a Dynapack Dyno. Max Torque was 308 lb/ft, and HP was 285.3 whp. Thought it would have been more. :( Is the ups and downs in the torque and boost normal?

  3. Intercooler Hole

    Posted 18 Sep 2009

So I'm at the dyno shop and we discovered a small hole in the intercooler. Its in the bottom part under the car, the black plastic piece(?). Going to JB Weld it and see what happens. Now have reason for a FMIC.
  4. Speedshops........Worthwhile For Us?

    Posted 16 Sep 2009

So I'm contemplating getting either a dual stage MBC or an EBC. For the dual stage MBC I'm looking at the TurboXS one. For the EBC, I'm looking at either the Greddy Profec II or the HKS EVC. The reason I want one is for the drag strip and trying to improve my 60' times. I want to bump the boost up a bit in 1st gear then really kick it in the ass in 2nd gear and so on and would prefer the BC do it automatically (hence I'm favoring the HKS). There's a speed shop about an hour away from me with a dyno and they do tuning.

Are speed shops able to tune our ECUs? The "About Us" section of the website states, "We have dedicated ourselves to assist the peformance enthusiast in choosing the right product for their Audi, ........Saab 9-2x, Subuaru or VW." I've heard good things about the EBCs, but I'm really concerned about getting it dialed in perfectly.

Thoughts on going to a speed shop..........
  5. Latest Trip To The Strip

    Posted 10 Sep 2009

Went to the drag strip for the second time last night after the motor rebuild, and what a night. Here's the results. The car was 2mph faster than the first time I took it. Changed my shifting points from 6k RPM to 5500RPM to keep it more in its powerband, plus the evening was cooler than the first time. My 60' times continue to kill me and prevent me from being a 13 second car!!

    1/4 ET = 14.0858
    1/4 MPH = 105.89

    Reaction = .0431
    60' ft = 2.3039
