so i get out to my car after school and it won't start. it seemed kind of like a dead battery except all the electric stuff seemed to be working. so if i try to turn it on this happens

It decided it can't stand you anymore. Call a tow truck to haul it to the JY. It will think it's finally free of you and perk back up. Just make sure you're ready to jump out of the bushes when it does.

BTW, we have a maintenance section.

i knew we had a maintenance/repair section, i just had absolutely no intention of fixing it myself :lol: i guess that's good it's just the battery but god damn. this car had electrical problems for a few months though, i went through like 3 batteries and i never saw that before by the odometer.

so i guess it was just the battery. i don't really get why i never got that message befor4e on the screen though. and the locks/windows/lights all worked and they don't usually. but i hope it starts in the morning...

oh and i definitely have a 98, owned. :lol: i couldn't figure out why i couldn't find this thread again lol.

and apparently my radio got reset and everything, had to reenter that little code and everything. weird.

If it's not in your sig it's too much work for me to find out. Plus it's not like a dead battery is year specific.

And it's not weird the the radio needs it's code after a dead battery, that's kind of the whole point of the code.

yeah i know you wouldn't have known i was just pointing it out. it makes sense why i'd have to reset it but i just don't get why the 3 times my battery died before were all the same and then a bunch of different stuff happened this time (lights working, radio code, locks working w/ keyless entry etc.)

Did you ever check to see if your battery had water? Most folks don't anymore and as a result these "maintenance-free" batteries can end up with portions of the plates going dry. Occasionally when that happens the lead can drop off the plate frames and short the battery between the plates. You can still get 12V when this happens but you won't get full current. The electronic bits will work (well, kind of) but you won't have sufficient current to spin the motor. I've seen this a couple of times on my wheels, so I would suspect that you had a shorted battery that just gradually got to the point of not being able to start the car. With all of this said, however, a bad cable that is corroding at the connector or underneath the coating can also give you the same problems.

A battery being 'dead' is not exactly a binary thing. 10.8 volts is technically dead, but how 'dead' it is varies from discharge to discharge. Also each time you discharge your battery like this it's causing damage. Figure out what you're doing wrong and then buy a new battery. Put this one out of it's misery.
