Obx Vs Est Exhaust

As the topic implies I am curious what others think of the OBX as opposed to the EST exhaust.

Here is why I ask: I currently have a cat back EST exhaust on my T5 and I love it but something rolled under my car and knocked the cat pipe in two. I have a temporary solution but I need a new cat (or lack thereof because Ohio has no emissions check).

As any modder will tell you if you need to replace a part you might as well upgrade. Well the cheapest solution would be to get an OBX downpipe off of a VSer but I feel that that well is dry by now.

A new straight flange DP/cat is roughly 220 shipped off eBay. I've found an obx exhaust for 350 with out shipping. I would love to get just the DP but that wont happen. I need two parts off the kit to fix so I can't really sell the angled exhaust missing a piece.

So here I am. Up for suggestions for an upgrade/ fix. I have had no experience with the OBX exhaust and the write ups still have me asking questions (SAS?).

I'm thinking sell the EST cat back and get an OBX and then sell the angled DP. I would think that I could make up for all the cash spent or make money. Breaking even or spending a little would be fine if I were to hook up a fellow VSer.

Either way I figure I would ask VS alumni their thoughts on this matter.

Oh and I plan to come to Carlisle.

well up until the last time i got under my car i would have told u the obx downpipe was prolly one of the better investments i have made. but last time i got underneath the car to change the oil i found this...

(yes i kno a nut is missing for the dp. had to put lock new lock washers and 2 nuts to get those to finally stay on)

i have only had this dp on for 3 1/2 months now and it looks like it's warped under the heat pretty bad (remember i'm only running about 13-14 psi). so i am now questioning obx's quality. although i haven't heard of anyone else having this problem, so maybe i'm the only one.

Damn!!! Are you running the full OBX exhaust or just the DP? I've been running the angled flange OBX downpipe, R manifold, with the OBX exhaust at 18psi for two months and my DP doesn't look like that.

i'm runnin the obx dp. into a 3" high flow cat. 2 1/2 from there back. i'm wondering if a couple LONG pulls with a mercedes 430 a couple weeks back might have gotten it super hot, i mean we ran em up pretty high... either way i don't think it should look like this.

:lol: I probably do 3-4 WOT pulls every single day at 18PSI, so you probably have something else going on here? What tune are you running?

I too live in Ohio. I have a full OBX and love it so far.

O2 spacer from autozone fixes the no cat CEL.

As for the SAS.... There is no bung on the OBX DP, but you can get one put in easily.

I did not and I get a CEL every week or so. I forget the exact code...maybe P0410.

My Air pump is still in the car and comes on and just blows air onto the turbo (where the bung should be).

I love the tone and installation was pretty easy.

I was one of the lucky few that got in on the dual DP deal from eBay BEFORE the price went up.

Needless to say after selling the extra DP and selling my stock CAT for cash I made over $100 all said and done.

The tip sticks out too far for my liking, but I'm told I could either hack it off and use a band clamp or get someone to weld it back on for a few bucks.

I am also around Dayton and I could take a look at it if you want and maybe see about just fixing the EST exhaust you already have if possible.

Call me crazy, but the "warpage" you refer to look likes flex from a missing nut. Could be a combination of stress from heat, vibration and flex from missing fastener. -Just a thought

flexing... i kinda had that thought run thru my head but didnt think much of it. that could very well be the problem. i think i finally have a handle on the problem of the dp nuts comin off. also i'm not running a tune, but from my understanding running 13 psi on the stock tune was perfectly fine. maybe i'm wrong?
