volvo850r
I would not get that tranny because it is just an m56 which will blow up in a turbo car.

850t-5 man
that tranny will be fine, all the h stands for is high as in the frist gear is a different size, they also have an m56L which stands for Low. also you dont know if its an L or H untill you look at the number plate on it. other than first gear there is no difference. the one you dont want is the m59 wich came in the euro R, it did have lsd but it is weaker. and that is a good deal for a compleat swap, buy it or tell us where we can buy it. volvo850r
The atech volvo in sweden is doind over 400whp and the tranny is taking everybit of it for the past couple of years so i would say if its driven propery and with enough slip in the clutch the tranny is good for over 400whp. I will definetely will be putting down more than that so it better hold up. As far as only the first gear is different that is incorrect the final drive is dfferent and the fist 2 gears are different. That mean with l you will need to make 3 shifts to get to 60 and with h you will need to make 2.

850t-5 man
ok i'm reading right out of my haynes, first, second and reverse are different between the two trannys. final drive depends on engine type and year. right out of the book.
