Dash Fixed

Well, my dash noise was getting worse and worse over the past few months and what really brought things on was a few trip though NYC across the G.W. Bridge. It's like driving through a minefield going through there! Anway...

I noticed that my entire dash was moving quite a bit and figured that some of the plastic screw points where the dash screws into the firewall must be broken. Boy, was I right about this one. SO, I decided to take on the project of repairing the dash according to Seamus' directions and pictures. I got the dash off and this is what I found:

The connections point was entirely ripped off leaving a gaping hole! No wonder I was having problems, but then I had to firgure out what I was going to do. Luckily, the broken pieces were still just sitting right there so I figured I would epoxy it all back together.

After clamping everything for a while and letting th epoxy settle, I made some aluminum reinforcement strips, aka Seamus. I bought the aluminum at Home Depot. The strips were screwed to the dash with self-tapping screws and then I placed sticky 3M foam stuff over to limit any noise from rubbing at the contact point.

I took the car around the block and everything is completely solid, its great! Feels like a new car now and I am fairly sure that this dash aint goin' nowhere. :P

Ciao.

Nice job. Some kind of dash rebuild/replacement like that is in my cars near future.Freakin noise is pushing me over the edge.Specially on a day like today when I took a 200 mile trip with my parents in the car and couldn't drown the rattles out with the radio.
