prasamin
i realized that, but im hoping to keep the same type of tranny in the car.you'll have to get it from a Canadian junk yard......good luck with that.....you're better off with the M56H....easier to find, although no LSD built in... Keaton85
How bad is the M59 tranny you have?...buy an m56 for ~400 then put in a quaife lsd for 1000. ~1600 and prolly stronger than the m59for 1600 you could get a M66... 6spd FTW!! Geevs
Well turns out my entire tranny is garbage and instead of rebuilding, i was told to get a another one.Does anybody know where i can get one??? ThanksWhat happened to your M59? What symptoms do you have? We have the same car, I'm on the Westcoast though. The M59 will be really had to score since only a few of these were brought into Canada and none in the US.Why not just rebuild it? And maybe change the gearing on the 5th to make it easier on highway cruising at 120kph+ speeds?
drin850
well if u take a look in maintenance forum, i have a thread there named "transmission gone?" and u can read what my tranny is doing right now. i dont know much about the transmissions themselves so i took it to a mechanic who told me a lot of things are broken inside and it would be cheaper to buy a whole unit. he obviously doesnt know the meaning of a m59. im going there tomorow to take a look at it myself, might snap a few pictures. just incase it is gone, i was hoping to know where i could score one. Geevs
OK, read the original thread. I agree you should take it to a Volvo specialist for a 2nd opinion. Also agree on changing the gearbox fluid. Get Redline MTL synth gearbox oil. Me and another VSers up in Callander, ON with an M59 are using this. Below zero temps can make the M59 shift hard when cold. The guy in Callander says Redline MTL has held up well in -20'C temps. Do you have any EST products on your car? If so, then you've met Frank and he could recommend you to a Volvo specialist. My car was serviced by a guy in Hamilton called Jonathan's Swedish garage.
