Tiny Radiator Leak On 95 940 Turbo

Noticed small paths from radiator leak when I was doing my T-belt.

Did not believe it first, so wiped it off to see if it appears again.

Of course it did. It leaks drops for now but I do not want to wait before It causes overheating so what should I do?

I've heard that the leaks on older radiator with brass sides can be fixed by soldering (or is it welding?)

Can I do it with a conventional solder?or do I need anything special?

Has anyone done it already?

Do not really want to spend $$ if I can fix it relatively well myself.

Opinions are really appreciated.

TFT,

It's leaking

on the side of the radiator. couple inches higher then the battery height. and it's on that same side. I might be wrong but it looks like metal over there. I specifically tapped it with a metal tool and it sounds like metal. It also looks yellow when the black paint is scratched.

Let's say if the radiator is metal is there any way to save it?

I'd like to put off cost just for couple of month if I could, just bought a behr radiator about 3 months ago for 850.

thanks alot

ps: off-topic

I was told upon purchase about oil line leak

the oil change shop tech showed me a leaking oil cooler line

how hard is it to change it myself?

autohauz.com carries 2 types: c-shape shorter one and L-shape longer one.

would you have any recomendation about which one to take?

The plastic is yellow under the paint. If it is metal, then any radiator shop should be able to repair it.

The oil cooler coolant hoses:

Typically the larger U shaped hose fails first, then the smaller L shaped hose, oil dripping on them from above is usually what kills them. I took both to Autozone and found a shaped heater hose that had both a U and enough of an elbow left over to do both jobs, cost was under 10$ with tax.

Autozone hose part number:

Though in the end, for the U shaped hose, I went with the Dayco 87617 hose on the far left (from another parts store), as I liked the quality of the hose better, while the other one had no brand and was made in Mexico.

  • 2 weeks later...

talked to the guy at the radiator shops here in town and he told me that I have an after-market one with brass sides (no plastic I guess). He suggested i take it out and bring it to him so that he can fix it fo $75. Do you guys thinks it's reasonable?

You can try it and see if you want, but I've taken mine to a shop three times and it still leaks. I have an aftermarket all metal radiator and they've soldered and resoldered both sides entirely.. still finds a place to leak. I just don't have the money to fix it anymore.. and I'm only driving my car one or two days a week.

I picked up one of those ebay ones and so far its been fine for well over a year. The only problem I have now is the clamp the holds the hose for the coolant expansion tank sucks and it seeps a little.

Decided to see how JB weld will hold up. I have no rush and will be able to leave a car alone for 24-48 hours to harden.

I am a bit sceptical about $4 fix (at walmart) but am on a tight budget right now and will have to see how it works.

Will use sand paper, IPA to clean off and jb weld and fed decades of hours to harden it.

Will keep my fingers cross.

There was somewhere that I picked up a very tiny clamp that fit great on there... I'm trying to think of it but I'm drawing a blank. But one of those is probably my next step.. since I've replaced every other hose, belt, valve and tank on the cooling system.

Is it like a t-clamp?
