  1. For a long time I've wanted to swap in a FWD subframe to use 2-bolt control arms. The drivers side 4-bolt arm is really challenging to access because of the M66 case. Several years ago I parted out a 99 V70 NA, and kept the subframe for this project. I was finally able to get started on the project this winter. Using a FWD subframe on an AWD car requires welding the AWD transmission mount bracket onto the subframe. I made a template to locate the bracket on the FWD subframe, then cut the bracket off from an AWD subframe taken from a XC my friend parted out: Once I had the brack

  2. Had a set back after a 6500 rpm launch that dead hooked @ 20 psi or so. It was one of those launches where I was like "I should probably check the drivetrain." Ended up twisting by rear billet 4340 axle stub adapters. Slipped it pretty well, so I think this failure is an excessive torque failure and not an excessive shock failure. The reason why I had to design these in the first place is so that I could use the 27 tooth spline Eaton Detroit TruTrac LSD in the rear and also use the stronger 960 MKI rear axle. I originally wanted to through harden the V1s but the manufacture was un

  3. Forgot to update on the X1/9: Drive to Carlisle - only me & one Volvo this year - Fiat got moved away from adjacent to the Volvo section this year The other red X1/9 is what mine looked like originally I did get this Did the exhaust note trials - just for fun - noticed I'm getting some oil smoke Finally got the car Dyno-tuned on Thursday. 195WHP, 165WTQ https://youtu.be/YRUDMYGVwCY https://youtu.be/gkhGNtn2R6c

  4. No other cars around, got stopped safely - yeah, could've gone way worse for sure. Right? Such a weird failure. I apparently excel at finding strange ways to break my car. The subframe with the new welds hadn't even made it onto the car yet This definitely upped my paranoia about random failures - I haven't touched the front suspension in a year or so.... And yeah, definitely a good call to get that all replaced on your car, since rusty shock mounts seem like bad news. Thanks! Yeah, sucks it happened but all things considered, the outcome was decent.

  5. Thanks Alex! Okay, so it's not quite time for the subframe install just yet.... I was headed to my soccer game on a Tuesday night in May. I had only made it about 1 mile from my apartment when I went over a large bump at 55-60 mph. I heard/felt an unusually loud sound from the passenger side of the car. It was kind of like I had a flat tire, but worse. I quickly got the car slowed down, then pulled over to the shoulder and got out. This is what I saw: Left behind a pretty noticeable skid mark from dragging the tire:

  6. Well number 36 (probably the last) left my garage today. A local guy knew the story about the car and made an offer I battled with but knew I couldn't refuse. Not sure how long I will be volvoless this time but I know I won't find a nicer one.

  8. Who's your mechanic? Can we call him and tell him to finally remove that front grille emblem? 😂

  9. no and yes. Yes, I threw it out thinking the guy would go away and he said "can I pick it up saturday". Did you really need to post that here? You could have easily put that in my previous post. Wasnt the plan but I would have been a fool to say no.

  13. For what it's worth, I got these instead of the quick jack: You can see how much height is left on the jack stand. It says they have a full height of 24". They are extremely sturdy. I was under the car wrestling the exhaust and transmission and never felt the car wiggle. They're fantastic.

  15. Hello, I am new in the car world and don’t know much about cars yet. I am looking to get my first track car. Maybe a few mods. Anyway I fond this old 850 R that hasn’t moved for 10 to 15 years. I contacted the owner and he would like to get rid of it for cheep. Like 700$. I don’t really know what I am getting into yet. Would it be worth it to restore it? I live in Montréal so we have harsh winter. P.s. it’s a manual transmission. Sorry for bad English I am a French Canadian

  16. I didn't know it was a thing either until a local told me about it. Then found out you can Crack the CEM using it, which will definitely be happening next month. Not sure how many times I can tell you thanks but I definitely appreciate it. It will definitely be getting a good bit of use, especially with all those non CEL throwing codes that came up.

  17. Since my C30 thread is archived..... I installed the rear diff on my C30 that I had added the Quaife 11J to about a year & a half ago... now I have proper AWD with front & rear Quaife LSD's. Not many pics, I already documented the R&R of the rear elsewhere. Basically, remove rear shocks, unbolt brake calipers & suspend from shock mount plate. Disconnect ABS sensors & Haldex harness. Disconnect rear CV at Diff. Remove trailing arm forward bolts (4), remove subframe bolts (6). Slightly lower entire rear, then disconnect EVAP tubes (3) and unbolt leak detec

  18. Thanks to the amazing @gilber33 I can now see things that are not otherwise known. I can also do things I wanted to add for a quarter of the price. Volvo wants $200 for the fog light turn on, + $150 for the auto lock feature. Vdash is only $45 ea. Need to get Vida working but was having issues with it so using VDash for now. Will likely pick up a battery tender, stick it in the garage and crack the CEM at some point next month. Till then, shenanigans.

  19. I also produced a 2nd billet angle gear. Been a crazy busy spring / summer. This unit went to a friend who lives in The Netherlands for testing. He has a highly built 850 AWD that he auto crosses in the dirt with. He has had continual issues with the factory cast angle gear case exploding upon launch when running the car locked 4WD. He setup the case himself with some help from me and he did a fantastic job! He was able to recently race the car. The case and drivetrain are holding up great so far! Looking forward to more racing. He is also making u

  20. Couple updates. Reran the front wiring for easy of access and to set up the quick connects so im not splicing everytime I want to run it through a car wash or even hand wash easier. Cut the wires off, then used an end mill to remove the wiring on the inside of the plugs I want to use as covers for when lights are not installed. Also made "covers" this morning for the roof light wiring, need to loom that wire to protect it from the sun, which ill do this weekend once I figure out where the loom went in the garage...... lol Couple photos of that. 21. Typically id disagree with a statement like this right now considering the value of older volvos right now, but you hit the nail on the head, this thing needs some love for sure. If it were perfect mechanically, and body parts were easy to find like they were maybe 5 6 years ago, id say its still a little high but not to far off. But yeah.... That's an expensive project.

  29. Not yet, that's either tonight s or tomorrow nights quick mod. I was surprised how bright these were lol, unlocked the car this morning like usual at 5am, went to open the door and was like dam thats bright as hell. It's been a struggle lately with the 4th coming up, first 4th without my dad and we were planning on having a little one so mentally im exhausted, so im trying to push through by doing small projects on the wagon. Ordered a bunch of misc wiring stuff and other little things that will be here tomorrow, need to drill out the sunroof motor cap to fit a voltage gauge and 3
