Brickerator @ Carlisle 2012 (Requesting Your Assistance!)

OK folks... Last year, this was a hit (when is beer not a hit?), and I'm glad! This year, with the Brickerator not being a secret, I'd like to solicit some assistance in getting it ready. I've got most of what I need, but in the tradition of one-upping myself, I need to add on to it. At the very least, I'd like a 3rd pony keg (I ran out of beer early Saturday evening), and in addition to that, I plan to bring some of my own home-brewed beer.

The third pony keg would simply be there for when one of the other main kegs runs out, but the homebrew I would like to be tapped in addition to the other 2 live kegs. This puts me at THREE faucets, and already, my draft tower has run out of room. On top of that, I'm bouncing around the idea of having an auxiliary keg hookup* (i.e. an unused faucet, with a tap to reach outside of the car). Last year, there were some kegs other than my own, so, if instead of using a party-tap, you'd like to take advantage of my facilities, you'd have that option.

Beer
The trunk fit's one size/shape: the short and fat 7.75 gallon "Pony" keg... While that size (volume) is available for most beers, they're using a different shape keg now (tall and skinny = does not fit)... For the most part, the only beer that comes in that particular keg is Bud/Miller/Coors. Having one of those is perfectly OK -- I call it the filler beer. Last year, I had Dogfish Head 60min IPA; in order to do that, I had to buy a bud light keg in advance, drink it all, clean/sanitize the keg, and then do a keg-to-keg transfer (source being 1.5 Sixtels, only thing available).

-Arrogant Bastard: Stone Brewery in San Diego uses the right size keg! If someone is coming from that area, I'd like to enlist you in this madness. I want Stone, period.... So if that means I have to buy 15.5 gallons (only size available outside of SoCal, per Stone), I'll do that and put the rest in bottles.
-Dogfish Head IPA: At this point, I'm still planning to have DFH -- and a 75min if I can swing it (mix a 60 and a 90).
-Bud Light: to be picked up at Carlisle Beverage, accepting sponsors
-Homebrew: I plan to bring one or two of my own beers -- I'll need to purchase two 3gal Corny Kegs for this (although this is smaller than batchsize, the 5 gallon corny's are too tall).

I still need to make my inquiries about the Arrogant Bastard and Dogfish Head... Not too worried about the AB, but last year Dogfish Head was having some major distribution issues (which is why i couldn't get the full keg that I requested 6-8 weeks in advance, nor could I get 90min IPA). If it seems like it's going to be an issue again this year, I may need some help from the DE folks!

Supplies
-Cups: I'll cover for the most part; because I know what fits in the cup holder... They're Safeway brand, and I'll figure out the size if someone wants to bring an extra bag just in case (probably a good idea).
-Dry Ice: someone suggested this last year, and after I got home I looked it up... The price was pretty even with the total amount spent on regular ice, and it will be less to deal with. I really only found 1 place online, somewhere in MD, but if anyone local knows of a place or can hook some up another way, it would help...

Equipment
Draft Beer Tower: I was thinking i would create a box, but instead, i think I'll take a single-faucet 3" wide tower and mount it horizontally on top of my other one, with 3 or 4* faucets running across it (I have 2 right now). The tower alone can be had on eBay for $15 shipped, but i'd still need an additional faucet, shank and hose for each new tap (a "tower rebuild kit" that includes one each of those 3 items is about $45). That said -- I'll either need to learn to solder Stainless Steel (and buy the tools/mats), or I'll need someone to do it for me.
Keg Couplers: This is what mounts to the keg, I need 1 sanke* (for aux kegs) and one ball lock (for corny/homebrew kegs)
Gas Splitter: I have a 2-way gas splitter, I'll need a 3-way (either to use alone for 3 kegs, or in addition to the 2-way for 4 kegs*).
Tap Handles: I'd need an Arrogant Bastard tap handle, and I don't know if they're any cheaper @ the brewery, but they are available online. I'm also thinking about a nice chalk board tap handle for the homebrew. DFH and Bud Light are covered, but if anyone wants to hook up their own keg*, maybe look into grabbing a handle for it as well (of course I have the standard 3" black ones, just in case).
Counter Pressure Bottle-Filler: This would be for properly filling a bottle with keg beer (and not having it spoil). I'd consider making one, but they're not too expensive.
Insulation: Few items that could help with this; looking to wrap each line individually with foil tape and then wrap them all in foam. Also found some nifty keg jackets that I'll fill with the dry ice. Open to suggestions -- remember: warm lines = foamy beer.

Food
I'm not bringing food... I just want someone there to feed me

As you can imagine -- this little endeavor is not cheap. If anyone can provide any part of this (hand-me-downs or otherwise), please let me know... Things that need to be made (like the draft tower) I will need sooner than later. If anyone is having a keg party -- you should do it with a pony of bud light/etc, and then give me empty keg .

Cars & Coffee Santa Barbara 2/19/12 Non-Volvo Content

So today Colin (86volvo740gle) invited me up to check everything out at cars and coffee. Great meet in general, so many nice cars and people, i was in awe for most of the meet, and didnt take that many pictures, but here is what i snapped at the GTG this guy works for Novitec and has the most amazing brake setup ive ever seen One of three SLS's, one was matte green from the factory, i guess i forgot to take a pic The woodword/restore on this was amazing this car!!!! So i was stoked on just seeing these car, but then I got word that the group was heading to a historical auto museum for the rest of the day, really couldnt pass that up haha, how it was kind of pitched though was that it was going to be a bunch of model T's sitting around, but that was far from the case. Almost all the cars in the collection have been multiple Pebble beach and various other show winners, much of them im sure you have all seen on TV. All the cars were Bugattis, Delages, Delahayes, Hispano Suizas, Talbot-Lagos and Voisins, basically all French. heres their website. http://www.mullinaut....com/index.html Shitt thing was, mostly all of our pics came out blurry, (i suck at taking indoor car show pics), planning on going back if possible with a tripod! but heres what i got. this was up against a wall, not a lot of room to take pics, wish i had my 50mm on me OG windscreen!!! SO this was the cool story of the day,sorry for all the people looking at the description on their mobile haha one whole side of the car is for the most part together, it was preserved by laying on that side in the mud, the other side of the car was exposed to the water current, hence why its almost all gone, haha. All that was done to the car was drilling some holes for oil/water/fluids to escape and the original dive team put on some sort of lacquer to preserve it. i thought it was very cool I know colins got some pics, ill try to save my pic of the $35 MILLION DOLLAR BENTLY that they had, my pics of it are hella blurry though Well, thats all for now, hope somebody found some of this interesting lolol

Hey guys,

It's been a while and I wanted to update some of you on what I've been up to!
Firstly, my parents just bought a new Volvo S80, it's fantastic. They hit a deer in their old S60 going about 60mph and totaled it. They were fine.
I still miss my Volvo 850, however the GTI is doing great.

Anyway, I have a new website!!
It's the same same url but with a different design: www.chrisamosphotography.com

I used these guys to design the website, I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good photography website platform.

For now, chrisamosphotography.com is going to stay exclusively automotive photography, I bought another site through cmd a few weeks ago that will be my wedding/portrait/headshot webpage.
I'll try to get some photos of the new S80 up there soon.

Quest For An 855R picture Heavy

After Carlisle 2011, which my 418 855 Turbo did not attend due to massive oil leakage. I met two of the members on VS in person who had helped me with parts and stuff when I got my Volvo back in July of 2010. Brandon and Tom two members from the ECC told me about an 855R they had picked up a few weeks prior to Carlisle as I had exchanged Pm’s with Brandon about flying down to pick it up. A few weeks went by after talking and they had to sell the R with was okay (needed valve stem seals). Was a little bummed, but then I got a pm about a month later from Brandon saying that he had picked up another 855R at a local auction that was meticulously maintained and the only issue was some clearcoat on the hood and roof. I immediately got together some money I had stashed away for a rainy day, this happened to be that day (sorry shitty metaphor). I talked it over with my Dad as I would be using some of his millions of accumulated flying miles from his job as VP of sales for a foreign company. I ended up paying a $50 dollar convenience fee because I bought the ticket 3 days before I was going to be flying out to MA! Not bad for a regularly priced $200 ticket. Brandon had to be back at school so that was where the time constraint came into play. So the day came for me to get going to the airport, took a limo because I’m hood, not really, yet again my Dad had free miles with them
Arrived at the airport at 4:30am with a suitcase full of suspension parts (literally everything) and a backpack with a few sets of clothes and the necessities (ipod, camera, phone, toothbrush).

I ran through the gates and went to check my bag in. Unfortunately it weighed way over 100 lbs…. oops. So I had to use mad weight reduction measures by shoving everything in my bag that I could to get some weight out of the bag so I wouldn’t be charged $200 for just the bag :rollseyes: Weight reduction success! And I was able to board without paying out the ass in bag fees. I imagine I was pretty funny to see in the middle of the airport at 4:00am rearranging struts, springs, shocks, and other things trying to get some weight out of the suitcase

So successfully landed at Bradley airport in Conneticuit. Brandon was on his way, called the family and told them the plane had made it safely and then decided to grab a picture of these guys, what a gem of a photo. Seriously airport security?

So jumped in and drove it back to Brandon’s garage where the Volvo parting madness takes place that everyone on VS knows

Mentioned that I had the suspension in a suitcase that I brought there… so we got right to it and started tearing apart the car after not even owning it for a half hour!

Didn’t get a picture of Dillon but he was there too!
Got the rear suspension on and buttoned up. The front was an issue, I ordered all parts separately from FCP because I had bought the struts from a member on VS so I didn’t need the whole kit, I forgot/didn’t know that I needed the two cross bolts for the top of the strut… DOH! Well I faced it that the front wasn’t getting done and started packing up the car and was ready to leave around 4:00. Flew in at 9:00, short visit but very productive!
The time had come to leave and I bid my adieu to Brandon and Dillon and my Dad (who had flown in form Detroit after a business trip decided to head out, wasn’t about to tackle a 15 hour road trip by myself on 3 hours of sleep, that’s just asking for problems).

Funny story, we were at a rest station in Ohio (I believe) and this Statey was sitting right there and when we went into the gas station to hit the bathroom I came out to see him walking around the wagon… I immediately pulled away discreetly and got out of there! (the plates on the wagon were unregistered Mass plates… oops ) Managed to grab a picture of him though as he went into the gas station which let us make a get away.

This was a great journey and I got to get reacquainted with friends I met at Carlisle and was overall such a worthwhile thing to do and now I have an R! This will serve as my pseudo “build thread” just a thread to chronicle what is happening and what I’ve been doing to the wagon. This thread should have been out in August but I got too busy with school and life, but it is here now. Hopefully it makes sense and I hope everyone who reads enjoys it!

A significant percentage of the whiteblock-related performance things that happen in the greater Dayton area occur in my garage, and it seemed logical to chronicle these things here for all to see. To bring youse guyse up to date, here are a few of the things that went down:

I joined this here forum just lately, after purchasing this mighty fine '01 S60:

We are currently building a 2.3 with RSI rods and a single-vvt RN head for FINN and getting my car together.

I have since sold it and picked up a '98 T5a, as well as an 850 parts car with all the suspension stuff and a 3" exhaust that will all find it's way into my T5. Hopefully others will chime in with pictures and updates, as I am really bad about taking pictures regularly. Please feel free to contribute.

I have always loved the way plates in Europe looked, so I went on eBay and found a out of service plate with a Volvo frame. I searched for Swedish plates but had no luck so I went with a German plate.

I have already confused a border patrol officer coming back into the US when I went on Vacation last week. He thought I had my car shipped from overseas! I was happy how well my 250k miles Volvo made the 1000 mile journey. 26mpg and a 1/2 quart of oil.

My poor little headlamp wiper broke off at some point. This is the second one I have put on, but it came from a junk yard. Are these available new?

Megasquirt 3 Install

I finally started installing my MS3 box I purchased over 6 months ago. I got the kit from DIYautotune that requires you to solder and assemble the whole thing.

I am using all stock sensors for now. IAT will be the outside temp sensor. M4.4 has a stock barometric sensor, so I am using that. Crank, Cam will be all stock sensors. I will most likely change them to the more common GM sensors. I just want to know if its possible to get it running on all stock hardware. Possibly do a PNP kit... .

For now I am staying with the distributor. When I have it running and I'm happy with the way MS3 works then I will switch to COP.

I asked s_moneh for his config file, even though he is running MS2E it gave me something to compare my settings to. Props and a big thanks goes out to him.

This how the car sits right now.

All the paper work needed to wire it.

I will update this thread as I get the car running and post some of the configs to help others.

New Car! 2011 S60 T6 Awd

Picked up my new car last night. It's a 2011 S60 T6 AWD with just over 9,000 miles on it. BIG THANKS to KYLE (trs80) for coming out to Pittsburgh with me to get it.

Vitals: Ember Black/Off Black, Dynamic, Technology Package, Multimedia Package, BLIS, PCC, Sport Pedals

This was the first time I've ever bought a used car out of state. Once the numbers were worked out, I placed my deposit (sight unseen although I had someone check it out), and hoped for the best! Luckily, everything worked out great. Since we were driving 350 miles, I arranged for a rental car for an insane $40/all in, so that we could defer the mileage onto someone else's car. Much to my surprise, for that price I was able to snag a brand new 2012 Infiniti G37X with just 10 miles on the odometer. I did not cross shop the G37 with the S60 but it was interesting to compare them in the form of back-to-back long-drive tests. Unsurprisingly, I think the Volvo is a better car in every respect, but I digress.

Of course, we here in the Midwest have been having a beautiful winter with no snow, warm temperatures, and plenty of sun. The first real "snowmaker" of the season decided to show up Friday night, right before we were supposed to leave on Saturday morning. The G37X was surprisingly good in the white stuff, but the road conditions along the way were pretty bad, with visibility at less than 1/4 mile at times along the Ohio turnpike. We ran through 2 gallons of washer fluid over the course of the trip.

I arrived at the dealership to find a freshly waxed S60 waiting for me. After an extended rattle and squeak free test drive, I signed the papers and brought it home.

Hello everyone just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Just recently bought my first 96 850 Turbo. Have wanted one for awhile now and found one with 180kmiles for $2000. Finished stage 0 maintenance and she runs really good. Very soon i will be modding my car and plan on the following
*Tuned ECU
*FMIC after market of course with RIP kit
*Gauges mainly boost and A/F
*OBX Exhaust or i might make my own
*Might add a BOV but that would only be to annoy my neibhor with his POS civic lol.
Before this car i have only owned 70-78 camaro's and SUV's so im looking forward to this build and enjoying this car. Not looking to build a real racer but i want to be able to have alot of fun also. If anyone is selling a tuned ECU(no specific brand),RIP kit and gauges please let me know. Thank you and i look forward to being an active member here

IPD Garage Sale scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012, rain or shine!

Oregon Volvo Tuners (OVT) will likely have a for sale booth again (maybe even two booths).

Hopefully NWC will be there in force. There will likely be another RSI "after-party" following the IPD event, with a convoy between the two locations. If you all have updated reliable information on other goings-ons that day, feel free to post it up here!

New Horns

I installed a new horn the other day and wanted to post a thread with my impressions. Before this horn I had a set of hella supertones. They sounded cool, and were very loud, but they are "hella" sensitive to water. One died after it was exposed to a little water (not sure how -- they were mounted high up inside my bumper). I did some research and there are tons of threads online about the hella supertones dying all the time due to water exposure. My buddy got me this horn for my birthday and I love it. It's the Nautilus horn by Stebel. I think they are used a lot on motorcycles, but the horns sounds great on my car. From what I read, they are a lot more durable as well. Certainly louder than the stock horn and the hella supertone horns.

Pros: loud. small in size, durable, relatively inexpensive
Cons: awkward mounting setup

I mounted the horn to my battery tray. All it required was a single screw and shaving off the last notch on the battery tray with a dremel.

Below is a video. Sorry for the crappy quality but it should give everyone a good idea of how the horns sound.

Ta Coilovers - Jjfab

We added the TA Coilovers to our catalog due to the interest expressed by some in the performance section a while ago.

I have installed one of these in my car for evaluation and so far I am impressed with the handling and performance. Its stiff but not too harsh over bumps. The suspension is only height adjustable, no dampening adjustment.

For installation I recommend installing brand new spring seats and either go with the IPD or XC90 version.

They are available now for $599 shipped (cont. US).

Some pics of the suspension installed on my car (it may settle more with more time, installed the previous night)

The UConn Car Club would like to invite you to be a part of our 9th Annual Spring Car Show on Sunday, April 15th RAIN OR SHINE! IT'S ON!. Please follow us on twitter for updates.

What you need to know:

Location:
W-Lot Commuter Parking Lot on the Storrs Campus
Directly off Storrs Rd (rt. 195)
Storrs CT, 06269
(see map below)

Hours:
Gates open @ 9:00 am (Please try not to come earlier because the lot will not be ready)
Registration closes @ 12:00 pm
Gates close when the parking lot capacity has been reached (~600 cars)
Trophies by 1:30-2:00 pm

Price:
Free to spectators
$10 dollars to show

Parking:
There will be no pre-registration. If your group would like to park together; arrive early and drive in together as a group. The first map attached below lists parking lots in the area and their locations so you can meet as a group before arriving at the show to drive in together.

Important: This year spectator parking will be across Rt. 195 along the side of Horse Barn Hill Road. If you do not plan to register your car, please park in the spectator area. As always, parking is limited at UConn, but we will try our best to accommodate all spectators. Police Officers and club members will be there to direct you.

Bragging Rights
For those who have yet to see one of our shows, we tend to amass some of the greatest diversity of cars in one place. Anyone who has been to a previous show can attest there's something for everyone, including Classics, Domestics, Imports, Euros and even Supercars. All makes, models and price ranges of vehicles are welcome.

We Need Your Input
Have any ideas for our show? Anything from previous shows you would like included or excluded? Any questions, concerns or comments for us? Please let us know! We have a forum setup on our website where you can discuss anything show related WITHOUT having to register. Just follow the link here and enter the password which is UC3 (all caps). The only way to make our show better is from the input we get and we'll do our best to incorporate as many ideas as possible.

Other Mentionables:
- The parking lot has a maximum capacity of around 600 cars. Once the parking lot is full, THE GATES WILL BE CLOSED. No ifs, ands, or buts. Plan accordingly and it should not be a problem.
- Arrive with the people you want to park with. There will not be any room to leave empty parking spaces open. (see pics below for parking lots outside of the show that you can meet prior to arrival)
- Judging will be done by the attendees and will begin at exactly Noon. Those who arrive past Noon will not be allowed to register for judging.
- We will have porta-potties within the show as well as food and background music.

Got the wheels re-drilled a couple weeks ago so I finally decided to do a test fit last night. My car is absolutely filthy. I guess I'll wash it whenever I get the spacers + tires.

Didn't try the rears on since I was more worried about the fronts clearing my struts. iPhone pics were the best I could do, too. *le sigh*
