well, san pedro muffler wants $700 to make a system with a OBDII cat (2.5"), and two magnaflow pass through mufflers, using prebent piping....they said that there is no way that a 3" pipe will clear the rear suspension...it will have to be crushed a little to fit in there...how did you other guys get a 3" pipe under there, esp with your car lowered...and i think $700 for parts a labor is very overpriced for the job of just getting a cat-back...what do you think....

I had a similar debate with the people, but i told them to put it in and we'll see what happens

since mine is brush bent, i believe they angled that area, causing it to shrink a little to maybe 2.75" in that corner. it hasnt caused a single problem... my noise and rattling came from the pipe leaning against the gas tank heat shield.

You going to be at that Volvo GTG on the 23rd? bring some newspaper and you can crawl under my car to take a look. My car isnt lowered...and i dont thinkg lowering it would not cause those arms to go up or the exhaust pipe to go down on it... it would be the spring seats that hold up the entire car stance (not sure)

yeah, so it will fit...i told them that there were too many other Volvo's out there with a 3" that it had to fit..otherwise we would never even mention a 3"...well, i'm guessing $700 for a cat back is overpriced though, right?....i'm just gonna buy my own mufflers, cat, and pipe, take it to a shop and see what they can do...it can't be more than 3-400 to build a catback, even with 2 magnaflows and a high flow cat...

Pras,

They sound a little over priced. Was that $700 for everything, cat, stainless pipes, mufflers and labor? How much did they say the cat would be? I was quoted $200 at another shop just for the OBDII cat. Really doesn't seem right about the special OBDII cats for California costing $200! My 2.5 " piping clears no problem, so I don't think the extra 1/2" would cause any problems. I definitely think you would save money by buying your own parts and just have a shop weld it up for you. I would even try one Magnaflow at first and see if you like it.

about San pedro muffler shop,..I just referred to them because they do mandrel bending. ...why do they want to use pre bent pipes? They are trying to jerk you outta your money with that 700$ figure should be closer to 450$. Did you talk to Tim? i dunno about their knowledge base either, some of them seem to have very little clue. let us know where you end up getting everything done.

they don't have a mandrel bender...it's a hydraulic bender....that's why he is using pre-bent piping...I talked to Tim, he looked under there, and that's what he said...I didn't get a part-by-part breakdown, but the price was for
1. CA OBDII cat
2. 2 14" pass through cylinder magnaflows
3. some prebent piping
4. tip
5. all 3" from the cat back
6. all labor....he said if I paid cash, then we'll work something out when i take it in

I think I will be better off buying parts myself and just have someone weld it together

BTW, does having a 3" turboback set off a CEL?...i'm gonna leave the O2 sensors in there, that's what Tim said...how bout a 3" cat back?...he said a 3" cat alone will set off a CEL

He's lyin to you left and right. 3" will NOT set a CEL, 3" cat will not either (I have a 3" catco race cat, and no CEL). $700 for the system? stuff, I paid less for mine to be imported tongue.gif so you's getting ripped. If they charge more than ~$450, I'd say you're gettting jacked. Why not just weld up your own system?

okay, I'm about to order parts, but what do I really need to get this done...:
this is the estimate I got for SS mandrel bent piping from a guy on Ebay:

3 3" 45 degree $14.00 $42.00
3 3" U bend $15.00 $45.00
1 3" Flex pipe $35.00 $35.00

Shipping $26.05

Total: $148.05

Is this enough, too much?
Do I need anything else, or need something in place of anything above?...like a 90 degree bend instead of a U or something...this will be from the turbo all the way back to the end!...how do the prices sound?

Pras,

That sounds like a great deal to me. If I go that route, I will have to find out where you got yours. tongue.gif What about mufflers and tip?
