Ok, Im contemplating a project that Im not sure if it will ever get off the ground. But to do so, I would need both DIN spaces in the console. That would require me to move my HU elsewhere. Could it be dropped to say where the ashtray is? Maybe just take that out and fit it there? I know some crazy installer people can do almost anything (cough Bing cough) but Im talking for someone with average skills.

True, but I like the convenience of having it at an arms reach. And though it delivers no power, it is still the centerpiece (or would share duty if I did my project) of my system. Just something to be said for having that convenience right there.

might I ask what is going in the 2din space? if it's just a screen, get a 2din HU with touch screen... Clarion makes a nice one.

I would, but I have much bigger plans than just that screen. and I dont want to pay those absurd retail prices either. I think it would be very feasible to do a far more functional install for under $500 if I can do this

Sure you could put it where the ashtray is, its all a matter of how much effort you want to put into it....

i was going to do that, and i may still do that, is that i can build a fiberglass pod, vinyled to match, that sits on top of dash where its flat above the center vents. sorta like a guage pod on the wrx

I saw someone do that the other day. It looked awesome. Especially if you have a good looking HU. Id be a little wary of attachment though. Just cause I like to be able to revert most things to stock. that might be tricky....
