Do any of you guys have cams for your cars? anyone try the NA cam swap. i saw somewhere one person commented on it but i was wondering if anyone has tries this recently or knows a good supplier for cams, its one thing i haven't done yet, and has not kept me from hitting the hp marks i want but, now i'm looking for new mods to try and before i investigate all the numbers on this i want to know if anyone thinks it has helped their car. Also do any of you guys have your valves lapped? just wondering.
I might drive a 40 year old mans car but that means I can keep on tuning it for 18 more years before I need a new one!

Why would you buy Ti valves and double valve springs for use with the 19T or any power close to 300-400hp..Also what did u do for Valve /piston clearance. Also whom made the Double Valve Springs. Doesnt make any sense to have gone that route because you dont need them. Im just wondering these things cause i have never heard anything about you doing it, pictures, ect ect.

Yeah does anyone know where to get cams made for our cars? I'd like some for my S70 awd if they can be made for less then a grand, and have potential for good HP and torque.

Also what is the Fmic upgrade, I keep hearing about it, but know nothing about it.

fmic = front mount intercooler, you can get lower temps with it due to increased surface area, and exposure

Correct.

Here is a Pic of mine. Excuse the Mess that car is going through sugery biggrin.gif

For the C70 it doesnt require you to remove the AC condenser and stock intercooler at least on the C70 it does. Also AC lines had to be removed so the Charge Pipe could be installed the way i wanted it. This leaves your Radiator open to alot more airflow now that nothing is in front of it. The intercooler i used fits perfect and bolts in easy.

I dont think cams are really the way to go for making 20 more hp you can do that with boost. Just cams alone without head work is pointless also.

Rob, the reason that im looking to do cams is simply that at higher rpm's it will certainly improve flow velocity in particular on a ported/polished head. the reason for ti valves (custom machined) and double springs, (autotechmotor) is simple as why not. To return the valves as quickly and accurately as possible it helps to have light valves and heavy springs, but really is about why not logic, with a 3 angle valve job it seems like a good idea to do them then all at once. There is no issue with piston/valve clearance, and as for the chip i run, there is not one, the car simply has the ecu flash updated on the dyno as it is tuned, for hp she makes between 330-375 whp depending on setup, boost compression ratio, timing, redline, ect. but with various combinations she has put up different numbers. i do not run the car 1/4 mile, i dont care about it at all really, i dont drive a chevy camaro for a reason. In terms of the intercooler, i think i am going to do a fmic but not sure the stocker is okay to about 20-24 psi, and thats really all the higher i go. But i may do it if Dr. vic ever tells me where he got his core! i love his setup, its one of the best ive seen for sure. anyway, about the cams again i could explain but i'm sure that you know higher flow velocity is even more critical at higher rpm's/ higher hp so i was hoping for something from someone who has done the mod, i can get NA cams for $100 for both so i thought i might, they do have a more aggressive profile, slightly, but i still think it may help, anyone?!!?

Ahh well i must have missed that you did port work and valve work. I thought you just did springs and valves and left it at that. Good power for the work man, i could make 320whp at 1.3bar on the 19T with a Atech Intercooler and 3" exhuast and some good good tuning. Figued if my C70 5speed would have that that stuff on it i could have made close to 340whp. Not bad on stock head and stock block. You should look into a Nice ShortBlock from us here at Vms. Then you can really push that bad boy.

Once i get some money back in my pockets from this project we will be working on a new custom head. Price is going to be STEEP, but its custom C&C head from the best company here in the us to do it. We are talking double flow numbers with any config you want. Did also did you ever flow your head what kinda numbers did u get at .380 or around there for lift. As for cams i can look into a custom grind if you want one, we have some people we can contact that does good work.

i must admit that i do not know my flow numbers, i leave that to professionals, but i can find out, the shops i work with are the best in the area and i'm sure the numbers are good, as the power gains were noticable, as for the custom head, that would be awesome i'd love to see a product like that for our cars, i did think about a vms shortblock, but i have just started a project motor, i think i'm going to be swaping a worked turbo head onto a NA block for the added displacement, sleeving it and running compression up around 10:1 i'm looking for about 500hp and i think it can be done, but it will take alot of time, and some serious drivetrain mods. I have the donor engines already (got all major parts for almost nothing, NA engine was $500 and head was $250, really i have the best volvo shop in the world here in PA) so i will see how far i can take this before i look into a short block assembly, but that head may be in the cards it numbers are as you say they will be.

Ping138: Where in Pa. is the fabulous Volvo machine/engine shop you recently mentioned? I am in central NJ and if this shop is not too far, my Volvo and I will be soon taking a ride. I really enjoyed the back and forth engineering between your and Rob at VMS. good luck with the motor. David
