It sounds like you have the rest of your top end suited for higher rpms.

However, unless you have the means (management-wise) to rev higher, what's the point?

I would see about getting a higher redline, and then the NA cams will help bring your package together nicely smile.gif

Daivd, the shops i go to are mostly local (volvo, machine) but my tuner is not, he's a friend who happens to know alot about the bosch systems and lucky for me he is willing to share his knowledge from his experience. The volvo shop i go to is outside philly by about 30min. west. they are a great parts resource, you can get whole engines for 850's and 70's from them at great prices, as well as every other part known to man for our cars. they are not however a machine shop, for that i go to another shop. The Volvo guys are a great alternative to any shop as all they do is volvo for 15 years, nothing else, with little exception, they all also drive volvo's too, i have seen many older turbo models there too including a few flathoods, in amazing condition. the shop is a nice modern facility located in east bum f@#k and i got lost several time trying to first find them, if oyu would like detailed direction ask and i will post them.

Erik,
you are correct in your assumption the i will run higher compression and higher rpm's, i think i may bump up to 8000 but still not sure, i may stay where im at
I might drive a 40 year old mans car but that means I can keep on tuning it for 18 more years before I need a new one!

I do not suggest really over 7000 on the stock bottom end not becaues of strength but because of the weight, there is alot of mass moving down there and the componets are very heavy. I do not know for sure but from our reasearch and common knowledge. However no knowing never stopped me so i say do what you feel you are comfortable with.

The new engine that i am going to build up is the one i am refering to with the high CR and revs is recieving ductile iron sleeves, there will be no issue with bottom end.

Is there much room in the aluminum for bigger than stock sleeves? Anyone know if anyone has tried posting the sleeves through the water jacket? Just speculating on the lpt/hpt bore diameters: if just a bit more beefing up of the sleeves was enough for Volvo, it would seem some posts on the inner water-jacket wall would be plenty to make sure the conrods trn into j-beams before the bores shift....

Ping138: It sounds like I am about 2 hours from your Volvo shop. Send directions. Rather than clutter up the forum, you can email me at davidwod@juno.com. thanks David
