Yesterday when I turned off the engine (the key already out) , I heard the fan is still running. I listen to it for about 10 seconds and the fan still running. I went back in to the car and started the engine and turned off. This time, I didn't hear it any more. My question is, is it normal or there is some problems? Thanks

I've been told that my car should do this also--- but I've never heard it.
Larry's wagon at the ATL meet stayed running for almost 5 minutes.

Do the older cars have this feature?

After a long drive or in city traffic it is normal for the fan working between 30 secs. to 5 minutes also depending on the weather condition.

For the sound check the balancing weights located on the fan blades and also check the bolts holding the fan motor on the fan assembly. Mine was making too much noise and some vibration when working. This weekend i have tightened the bolts and no more sound or vibration.

My fan does this all the time, they will run for up to 6 min.'s after hard operation.
I might drive a 40 year old mans car but that means I can keep on tuning it for 18 more years before I need a new one!

I believe this is a recall item on some models. Some volvos have burnt to the ground because of this.

For a few minutes it is normal if the car was being worked. As soon as the temperature goes down it should turn off. If it's going longer than a few minutes then you might have a problem with the fan...

Mine does this but I usually idle it down after hard running....
Most newer cars have this feature to cool them down after running hard, the thermostats control it and cool the engine down before shutting it off.

I've still never had mine do this. Is there a seperate relay that controls it? Or is it ECU controlled?

The recall is for 2001s and maybe 2002, not sure. There have been 6 fires, no information as to them burning to the ground. dry.gif

that has happened to me twice...i was a bit perplexed and both times i just turned the key back into II then off again and the fan stopped, if the car was meant to do this wouldn't the fan have stayed on?

So you have fooled the ECU and the thermostats ECU tought that you will run the engine. tongue.gif .

P2 cars run the a/c fan to prevent mold build up in air conditioning system.

850/70 cars will run the fan to cool down the hot bits. I always try to "cool" down my car my going easy on it for a couple minutes before parking it. Using this method I rarely get the fan to start even after some very hard runs.

Cheers.
