Tax Reform

Recommended Posts

It's called progressive tax.

Hartford CT, pays $13,000 per student and it's a mess.

My town is 169th out of 174 in spending in CT. Recognized and award winning schools. Difference? Parents. And quality of staff. My son is in a special ed program. He's headed for college next year. Semi-miracle. They have more money to spend than our schools, whats the problem?

Lets keep throwing good money after bad, that always works.

Where can I get some youths in asia? Is that from a pron site?

The SAME benefit.

Then same tax. That's how it works. That is why you have to make a story that doesn't happen. What your saying isn't how it works. They rich get a bigger financial benefit from our infrastructure, therefore they pay more.

Why should someone who works his ass off in his own company and earns $20 pay 50% of that to the govt, when a bone-idle employee on minimum wage and an incomplete timesheet who earns $10 not have to pay any of it for tax?

Because at the end of the day the company owner got to keep 1 million dollars and idle employee got to keep 10 thousand. See how it works? It called incentive.

Lets keep throwing good money after bad, that always works.

You are so right. That is never a good idea.

I love these threads! :lol::lol::lol:

Here is a thought...tax everyone who makes under $200k at a flat rate of 40%. Make more than $200k, and you don't pay a dime in income taxes. What better incentive to succeed than that? :)

better throw in an unemployment tax! 40% of 0 is 0 so I say tax them 40% of what they should be making if they weren't being lazy and unemployed.

Word.

To add, eliminate government funding and handouts from cities with the highest unemployment, crime, Jheri Curl sales, and overall poverty. If DeShawn or LeShantae are no longer collecting welfare checks, they'll be looking for a job the next day. While we're at it, let's help out some local business owners in the area by tripling the rates and fees on pay-day loans and cashed checks.

Complacency has never motivated anyone.

Honest anwser. I like that.

Why do you feel he should die, go hungry or be sick for not doing well in school? Enlighten me.

What good did he do for society? Why should I help him? He couldnt possibly have been offered more help, and couldn't help himself. And I think J0E, in the post quoted below, couldn't have explained it any better. He had no reason to succeed. He was given food, gas money, a car, car insurrance, and whatever else he needed. Let him rot in the streets and tell the children who ask why "because he was dumb and lazy". Just like J0E points out about welfare, take away the free ride and you'll get to work in a hurry.

I don't follow. How do the rich get a bigger financial benefit? You mean they make a bigger paycheck off the consumers? How does that 'cost' the country anything?

He should not succeed within the law of men, but there are humanitarian responsibilities we should keep in mind. No man, should be sick or die because of a lack of treatment or go hungry in a country as great as this. We do more than that for less motivated people in countries thousands of miles away. Yet you will let a fellow American die at your feet because he didn’t satisfy your ideals of success. You will see first hand the fruits of your labor vs. his. Read about the rich man and Lazarus.

We all have equal access to public resources. The rich guy, "Fred" uses the road to drive to work. He uses the military to protect him. He uses the currency of the state and so on. By using that, he made 5 million in one year. Middle class "Joe" used the same things, he made 45 thousand a year. Fred will pay a larger amount than Joe. At the end of the day Fred kept 4.5 million and Joe kept 30 thousand. They both are citizens of the USA and use the same resources.

What if Fred hired a clever accountant. This accountant put Fred's money in retirement accounts and low yield IRAs. Fred hid a ton of income because he could pay the accountant to figure it out. So in the end Fred paid a lower percent of his income in taxes. It happens all the time. Point in case by Chuck’s comment.

You also have to consider that Fred with his good business practice and hard work made more than Joe. Fred also is able to lobby congress and most likely had a direct relationship with his state representative. His voice is heard louder than Joe's because of his campaign contributions. Therefore Fred’s wealth and higher tax bill has suited him better than Joe’s meager contribution.

How are you so sure I am poor? My faith makes me rich. Truth be told, I am not financially wealthy enough to be represented by the conservative republicans. Neither is anyone on this forum… Further more I support a lot of conservative ideals. I also support a ton of the liberal humanitarian views. I agree with libertarian socialist views in some respects, but the world is not ready for most of those utopian ideals.

Above all though is my faith and love for Jesus Christ. Those of you who have read Christian writings know where some of my statements are from.

Luke 6:24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.”

   This thread delivers.

I'll go ahead and argue the support though. I'm poor, so I argue all this while not having any decent money. We'll ignore the fact I'm in a state university. I'm not sure I support it, just using the resources the tax dollars I and my family paid for.

I don't think we should be supporting lazy bums in other countries either. So no hypocrisy there ;) I won't let him die because he didn't satisy my ideals of success. I'll let him die because he chose to. There's literally retards out there making minimum wage. This friend actually walked away from a job after a dispute with the manager. I pushed him to make nice because without a GED he would surely find nothing else and he even liked the job. But he decided his priorities lay with waking up at noon and asking mom for twenty bucks. Don't get me wrong, I think some 'hand out' services are good for rare circumstances. But I think those situations are rare, and my friend's life is a lifetime apart from those.

As for Fred and Joe. Absolutely amazing. You said Fred worked hard to get rich, so he could have nice things (like accountants), but used the exact same amount of resources that Joe used. But because Joe isn't rich, Fred should give more money to the government? The 'loop holes' he used are faults of the government system, not his own. Use the tools you are given. More overly specific example: I spent a half hour preaching to my roomate about investing, IRA's, mutual funds and how even someone without much brains could make use of them. At the very end he says "eh, I think I'm just not going to mess with all that stuff". And 10 years from now, after his mom is done paying his school loans for him, he'll accuse me of getting a good life for all the reasons you listed above.

Oh, and congratulations. You realized money is power. Welcome to America. Now, quit your bitchin and make some more of it. The money is your vote and voice.

And I think we all know rich here means the money. So unless Jesus is going to give you a money tree, we can rule him out of this debate :P It would seem the only conservative views you hold are religious, the rest are socialist.

I think public schools are not that bad... it really is what the kid makes out of it

I went to public and private and public school had brighter students in the best classes than the private school

it really is how the kids takes advantage of the system... the parents need to show interest in the kids schooling and they should be OK

Jake said exactly what I was thinking in the comment below.

you were white probably in a suburb not in NYC public schools above 125th street in Manhattan. I'd imagine the quality is a little different.
