currently its bone stock

its automatic sad.gif

0-60 is about 8.7
if i brake launch it, itll be about 8.2

im a total noob to modifying. could someone point me in the direction of various chips? the ipd looks to be around $800, which is quite a hefty amount.

im not looking to change out the exhaust any time soon sad.gif

its got a new volvo oem filter. would a k+n PANEL filter offer much imrpovement, or would i have to go for the cone one? its got fresh tranny, motor, and radiator fluids

fresh spark plugs

fresh front o2 sensor

no vacuum leaks anymore

im thinking, if i were to do anything, it owuld just be an ecu swap since its pretty much just a cartridge that i can pull out and push in?

thanks!

maybe a volvo 850t specific website geared towards noobs like me would help

First get a boost gauge to figure out why your 0-60 times are so slow.

Ok here you go. Do these things first before you get a chip.

1. Intake (EST has one, and or you can custom make one, or just use a K&N panel filter, which does wonders itsself.)

2. Exhaust (2.5" to 3" exhaust)

3. 3" Downpipe

4. Then now get your chip. I would go Upsolute, they sell for about $400.

I would also do some suspension mods too, like IPD sways, performance shocks and struts, and a strut brace.

I would check out the Stage 0 write up at the top of this forum. It may help.

At that point, i would look at modding.

Ben speaks the truth. Stage 0 is where to start. We need to email everyone who joins VS a "Stage 0" sheet. Kinda like a VS membership package. Basically stage 0 just covers all the bases that you want to have done BEFORE you start throwing big performance parts on your car. There's no point in dropping serious coin on chips and exhaust if you have boost leaks all over the place!

Yeeea... you don't need the downpipe, you don't need the intake. In fact, the stock intake is good enough, I'd honestly recommend leaving it alone. You can do the EST if you want, but realize that it won't really make a huge difference either way. And... if you're gonna sink all that dough into exhaust, intake, etc, DON'T skimp and get a $400 chip. Save a couple more bones and just do a DASTEK.

Oh yea, and use the "search" function. tongue.gif

right. the upsolute is practically half the cost of the ipd ecu

if i just get the upsolute and a k+n PANEL filter, you think i could break into the mid6's?

K&N won't do jack, no offense. And I'm not recommending the IPD/TME chip, by the by (they're the most conservative :-\ no fun, no fun). You want mid-6 second 0-60? Yea, you'll probably need more than just an upsolute. I don't recall what stock times are, but...

First thing, dont measure your car by 0-60, that is only used to sell cars by auto manufacturers. Have a goal set either by trap speed or 1320.

For intake, use any cone filter, and for chip id recomend speedtuning for its cost and the fact that there is enough fuel for 20-22lbs of boost spikes.

I would reccomend for your first upgrade to be samco hoses. The throttle body hose is going to break sooner or later. Your better off spending the 200 now for 5 silicone hoses rather than spending 60-70 bucks just for the stock throttle body hose.

Another thing, I'd stay away from cone filter setups, that is, unless you have a good heat shield.

Im sorry i must contradict, i went from the stock airbox to a non sheilded cone filter and saw no loss in performance, I would switch back to the stock airbox but the sound from the cone filter is amazing.

Instead of a heat shild, just place a 3" diameter tubing segment in between the maf and the fresh air hose to extend the distance of the cone from the engine, keeps the cone nice and cool. If you look at every high hp car with a turbo, there is barely ever a heat sheild setup like the EST one.
