I drove it back from Connecticut, taking a grand total of 48 hrs to make the trip. It is an '04 Aero Sportcombi w/ the 5-spd. And that's dark blue, not black. Visibility package (Bi-xenons and backup sensors), touring package, and sport tech package (two tone seats, leather door inserts, and carbon fiber dash). Sticker price 4 years ago was $43,165. I paid roughly 1/4 of that. Gotta love that depreciation factor. And just in case you were wondering, yes, it is faster than the T5.

Got more overall pics? Can't really see the "whole" car.

Is this a GM - or prior? I don't recall when they were bought out.

I'll have to get some tomorrow. I've been doing little things here and there (poly trans. mount, Lexol'd seats, etc.) to the car today and it is too dark to get any right now.

All I have right now is this crappy, un-detailed picture of the car at the dealer:

Cannot edit, but to answer your question. GM bought half of Saab in 1990 and the other half in 2000. These cars don't share any parts with any North American GM models, but apparently have a few items shared with some higher end Opels/Vauxhalls.

Looks pretty good - styling-wise. I like the two-tone & the swept door panels. How do the seats feel (how many K on it)?

jan. of 2000 actually.

96 was when the reliability started to go south.

this one is also the saab that has a bigger 40-70(?) pull than a 911 turbo, says top gear

Gorgeous wagon! The exterior styling on those is so sharp, but Saab fell on it's face with the interiors. I had a 2004 9-3 and it just seemed...cheapy, too vertical or something.

Saab seats are great.  I wanna say from memory that they were designed by SPARCO.  My brothers old modified 900 was so much fun to drive.

hawt.

but why saab?

I wanted something different, the major requirements being that it be a wagon and have a manual transmission. I looked at the V50 6-spd's, but felt they were too small. V70R's... AWD scares me, even if it is better than the 1st gen systems. The FWD V70 T5 was considered, but I didn't like how it drove at all, and I felt cramped driving it despite it being a good size car. BMW 540I wagon was briefly considered, but quickly dropped when I remembered what type of gas mileage it'd get. B5 S4 Avant was considered, but dropped when I realized it would need repair once a week, and turbos as often as 850's need timing belts.

I ultimately went for the Saab b/c it can manage 31-32 mpg on the highway @ 70 mph, has 5-star safety ratings and is safer overall than the 850, has plenty of power/torque, handles better in stock form than the 850 does with its suspension upgrades, is unique (I have never seen another Aero wagon on the road in this area), and just fun to drive.

Jeez guys, you talk about it like it's a '99 S80. Early 9-5's had their trouble spots, but the later ones are rock solid cars. As for 9-3's, I don't know or care much about them.

And yes, this is the car that will beat the 911 turbo from 40-70 in second gear.

9-5>9-3. Admittedly, this is no BMW/Audi/MB interior, but it is a step up from the 850, and is still light years ahead of any domestic offerings.
