jan. of 2000 actually.
96 was when the reliability started to go south.
this one is also the saab that has a bigger 40-70(?) pull than a 911 turbo, says top gear

Incorrect. . . . . GM bailed Saab out waaaay back in the 80's. They gave them until 93 to get into the black. didn't happen. GM took over for the 94 model year. If you know enough about Saab's you'll notice they Shoved out 94 converts in the C900 body. but all the coupes & hatches were of the GM body. they tried a GM V6 for a couple years & then bagged that & went back to the 4cyl turbo.
Have No idea where you'd get 2000 from, or 90 / 96 for that matter. 96 is actually when they started coming back around to being Saab's again. 94 & 95 w/ the V6's are the worst. but anyway. Yeah. . . .the Aero's are 250hp & 258tq not 260. unless they've done some mod's.
The worst thing about those are the Gay feeling shifter. . . . .but there is a upgrade kit for that. One of the Biggest improvements you can make to it will be a Posi. Abbot also offers whats called a rescue kit. basically some strut bars . . .ect. But this may only be for the 9-3's.
If you Really want to know All your options. & where you'll get the most bang for your buck. Call my brother @ Scanwest Autosport (Seattle) if you haven't heard of them . . . .you Will. There isn't much of anything they haven't done to these car's. It's REAL easy to kick that thing up to 350hp. infact I'll add a link of a 9-3 Vert beating a M5. Good luck ! ! there alot of fun ! . . . & just a side note. While Volvo's claim to fame has always been the safest car in the world. Saab has been the safest car in Sweden for YEARS ! ! & do mean consecutive years running.

Better Pic
Yeah, you're right. This one is rated at 250. The '06 and newer are 260. This 5-spd does have the overboost function for 20 seconds though. I'm not sure what output would be during those 20 seconds.
As for the shifter, it wasn't that bad IMO. Ever driven a 240 w/ an M47??? The first day I got the car back though, I installed the Taliaferro sport transmission mount, which improved feel drastically. One thing I like: LSD's don't cost $1500 for this car! It's great. One can be had for around $550. First suspension mod will likely be Bilstein HD's. I'm not sure I'll lower this car. It already comes wayyy too close for comfort on the Rhino Ramps and my floor jack won't fit under the front valence.
After that, I want to get rid of the crappy "catalytic converter 3 inches after the turbo exhaust flange and another one just for kicks 16 inches downstream" downpipe. I do NOT want to make this car loud though. I like it how it is. It's a lotta fun, but would be way more fun if I reduced the turbo lag.
I just failed Texas inspection by the way. Tint is too dark

Yeah, 2nd gear top end is apparently retarded?? Plus, "they so safe because....YOU CAN'T CRASH THEM!!"

I didn't even catch that you picked it up in CT. Nice cahhhhh.....as far as the tint goes, cops up here have better things to worry about than window tint...such as people shooting each other on ocassion. Just go snag some untinted front window glass from a junkyard and pop them in for inspection, then swap them back out when you get home.

Oh no . . .please don't get me wrong. those are Great car's. especially for what it sounds like you paid for it. We don't have those type of inspections here. every other year you have to go through emissions, but thats it. & pretty much the same as B Mac. . . . we have tint laws, but they don't usually bother with you. ALL my car's ( & my truck ) has 5% all the way around.
as far as the shifter. . . . . Just saying you can make it almost as nice as the 04-07 V & S R's. & Most important . . . . Don't go by the original oil change intervals. . . . .we've had So many customer's ruin there engine. Like you said . . .with the cat Right under the oil pan it boils the oil. I believe they now have a TNN that says every 3500 miles. . . .& thats with full synthetic. It might be higher . . . .I can't recall off the top of my head.
From my understanding . . .Full boost is reached in 3rd. & while the 06-07's have 10 more hp, there still at the same 258tq. I didn't catch how many mile's were on this one. . . . hopefully you had it checked for sludge. part of a buuyers inspection from our repair shop is removing the oil pan to see if there's any sludge. This was a huge . . . Huge problem. Great lookin car ! ! Best of luck with it ! ! !
