Can anyone advise (I did do a search), if the 1998 V70 GLT came in a turb and also N/A version? I've been discussing one with a guy who is selling, and I had a look at the liftgate, and it clearly says "GLT", but when I asked him, over the phone, if it was a turbo, he said no...

Searching Google for V70 GLT points out that they all had LPT's and put out 190 BHP when new. Is this guy full of it?

I think he might be confused. I always understood that the 850 glt's were NA and the S70 glt's were LPT. huh.gif

Yeah, that was also my understanding that, starting in 1998 S and V70 GLT had the LPT, whereas the 1997 850 did not.

GLT 98 = LTP
GLT in a 850 was a trim line not a engine line

you can havea 850 GLT and be either Non turbo or turbo

so a 1998 V70 GLT = LPT

you guys are a both a little wrong. the 97 850s had the lpt motor. all other 850 glts were na.
as for your question, all x70 glts are turbo. there is a chance that you are reading the badge wrong and it says gt.
volvo did make a v70 gt which is na.

Nope, it was pretty clear, it said GLT. So, it seems as though this fella is a little confused, or maybe someone snuck the GLT badge on the thing.

Anyhow, looks pretty clean, leather interior, Eurorails, has 191k miles on it, and the guy is asking $4500.

Anyone think that is a bad deal? I checked the NADA value, and the retail is $5200 (This guy is an dealer, but just a local used car dealer, and not a dealership)

Appreciate any tips. Would like to get this, and give my N/A to the wife. smile.gif

Failure.

All 1997+ GLT's are low pressure turbos.
a 1997 850 GLT is a low pressure turbo.

From 94-95 there were:
850
850 GLT
850 T5
850 T5R

From 96-97 there were:
850
850 GLT
850 T5
850 R

Some of the 850's had a "Sportwagon" badge, but that did not mean it was a turbo.

Correct!

and what is weird is that when buying insurance for my car 5 years ago, the company had no clue there were turbo models. She just asked "GLT or regular?" I was like ... umm....GLT?

maybe i got cheaper insurance... who knows

With the limited info provided, yes. What maintenance has been done? Last TB? How's the suspension components? At 191K, even a Volvo is getting a little long in the tooth.

At a minimum, I'd knock at least a grand off of his price.

If the car is in average condition (i.e. needs repairs to suspension and such)
This is not a very good deal (maybe it would be to a used car dealer smile.gif )
Be patient, these cars are getting cheaper to buy

If you want to know for sure if there is a turbo or not, ask him to take a picture of the engine bay. Its real easy to tell if its got a one.

with that mileage the price is way out of wack, unless the car is SPOTLESS and COMPLETELY up to date on maintenance. Even then, I'd still knock a grand or two off that price. By me you can pick up a 2000 V70 with less miles for 3-4000 at dealers!

The seller just called with the VIN, because I told him I would be getting a Carfax on it, and calling the dealer where it was serviced. As soon as he said "56" (i.e. YV1LW"56"72W235932), I knew he had no idea what he was talking about...

He also said that he did not have the maintenance history, so I will be taking a big fat hairy PASS on this one..

Thanks for all the wise tutelage. Even though the vehicle inside and out is pristine, he's asking too much.

Cripes, I just found another one (at Goodwin's Volvo, no less), that is the same year, has 157k miles on it (my current one is not far from that), and they are only asking $1500. I did a vehicle check on it, and it did very well, however it appears as though there may be lein on it, which could very well be a mechanics lean.

With that said, is is common for repair facilities to sell vehicles for what the repair costs? I mean, obviously a mechanics lein is due to someone not being able to afford a repair. Anyhow, with any luck Goodwin's will have some good news for me..

My old '94 wagon was an 850 GLT Turbo. That was the nomenclature on the back hatch....nowhere on it did it say T5.
