My drive to and from work is going to increase in about a week. I will be driving 30 miles one way. My 1999 S70 T5 AWD is completely stock with 97000 miles. I wanted to know if was better to do a cold air intake or a cat-back exhaust first? And which will get me the best mileage gain? It seems to me these will cost about the same. If you suggest the exhaust, which muffler is your favorite? Thanks, narxs70

I would say that more important than catback/intake, check your o2 sensors and spark plugs first. Then, you can lead into a free-er flowing exhaust system and less restrictive air intake. Personally, I suggest either using a cone filter or placing a K&N Panel Filter in the stock airbox.

If you want better milage, just try not to get into boost... but what's the fun in that?
For performance... K&N panel, turbo-back exhaust and chip should do the job.

Not to jack this thread, but any differences with either the K&N panel and the cone?? Right now i'm using the K&N panel, but I do have a cone I'm thinking about installing. Should I leave it alone with the K&N or...?

I have found the cone will help attain higher boost levels than the same K&N panel filter in the stock airbox. Worst comes to worst, you switch it back. Make sure you clean them both

A tad quicker spool up with the cone? perhaps?

main purpose for the panel filter is to avoid heatsoak, in the winter time I wouldn't worry about heatsoak so much.

I would suggest to make sure the cone filter your are using has atleast the same (better if greater) surface area as the pannel filter. Here's a link to finding out the S/A of a cone CONE surface area

on turbobrick.com they said you can gain a few extra horsepower by spraying your intercooler with water. i've added it up and you can make a good setup for about $50. What are your thoughts?

use regular grade gas if you are not already and you might see some better gas milage. As the weather starts to get colder I usally switch to 87 on my car.

min octane rating of the 850's is 89...I don't care what people say even with knock sensors we can get knocking, especially from the crappy gas that has been circulating. Seems to me like the higher the prices go the more people i hear complaining of bad gas e/t/c
