aight, so the catch can is going in this weekend (weather premitting) and I'm really getting the bug to mod again...so I feel, next paycheck, I'm going to buy a ATF cooler (B&M) and a ATF temp gauge....my only two questions are: which gauge should I get (I have AutoMeter UltraLite in my car already wink.gif) and where should I place the sensor (I'm assuming the sensor comes with the gauge, correct?) ...should I place it in a line close to the trans or some else? Anybody done this here? Any tips or words of advice?

Thanks

I would put it in the top atf hose (fluid from trans to cooler) as this will let you know how hot the trans is running at, rather that how cool the fluid is after its been through the coolers.

It would tho, be easier to put the sender in one of the new hoses for the b&m as the original top atf hose remains in tack and you dont really want to cut into that.

The Gauge prolly doesn't come with a sender... Get the same Ultra-Lite gauge.. the best style Autometer makes IMO... The sender will need to go in the spot where the ATF will be the hottest.. which in my mind would be right before it goes INTO the cooler... Splicing into the hosing isn't going to be that hard... There's no big PSI in the Tranny...

zip ties for what? what type of sender (I'm guessing this what you mean by the probe correct?) should I get? How would I put this into the hose?

Autometer makes one... its on this page somewhere... Autometer Just make a T fitting with the probe in line so it comes in contact with the ATF.

ahh yes, but they are saying you have to drill and weld the sender into the pan...is that completely neccessary? if so i'd need to have a shop do this....man I need a lift and a full garage of tools...I'm working with the bare neccesities and it really hurts...

also, while we are on the topic of gauges, has anyone done an A/F gauge? Do our O^2 sensors hook up with that?

thanks 98S70R, I'm going to start looking into the gauges

No problem... call me Kevin. biggrin.gif

You don't need to drill into the pan... (I did that on my truck tho, took the PTO cover off the manual tranny, and drilled a hole then heli-arced the fitting into the PTO cover.. worked great.. ) What I would do is take the line from the AT to the cooler, cut it. Put some barbed fittings w/male NPT in the ends of the tubing (seal them with hose clamps, then take a T fitting (made of stainless or bronze) hook the two ends of tubing to that, then take the temp sender into the other end of the T. Voila. HTH...

I haven't dinked around with the AF gauge.. seems to me I remember seeing some regular on VS who's got one.. I work 40 hours a week, and I still can't come up with enough money! I need to sell some things... biggrin.gif You picked the right gauge tho... Ultra-Lites are the truth.

I'm being told the A/F guages are worthless...just a pretty light show...I'll skip that and save for the ATF temp gauge and the trans cooler...possibly buying that next week biggrin.gif

If you plan on hooking up an a/f gauge to the stock narrowband o2 sensors, they are worthless. I think they may give some usefull info if you purchase a dedicated wideband 02 and weld it in to the exaust and then connect an a/f gauge to that. Its a nice visual mod though, thats pretty much why I did it.
