I was looking at my vacuum lines and checking everthing out before I buy a chip. I noticed the vacuum lines coming off a tree right behind the air box and to the left the hoses seem to have a different feel to them not like the rubber hoses is this normal I can't see any cracks. The hoses have tape on them I believe red white and blue

You can get standard vacuum line at autozone. Even if you think the lines are good, odds are that they are not. When i pulled my lines out at 100k miles, one line literally crumpled in my hand. ohmy.gif

Also, if you can get a hold of silicone lines, they hold boost much much better and will not deteriorate like rubber. check out www.hosetechniques.com

I got the hosetechniques starter kit and it took care of most of the vacuum lines under the hood. Seemed to make a good bit of difference in my car. Had alot of the middle size hose left, will use the biggest for the radiator overflow, wish someone would post the measurements needed by size but oh well. About the cheapest upgrade you can do.

You might want to check the dealer, maybe they can give you a deal. After replacing all of my lines, i noticed that the line that the Volvo dealer uses is far superior to any silicon or rubber line i have ever seen, they also gave it to me for cheaper than anywhere else.

They gave me a quote of like 20 something dollars per yard or something for the volvo line. It wasnt even volvo line that they gave me, it had some cloth heat sheilding on the outside of it and was flexible yet incredibly hard rubber.

that is what is on those lines it for heat protection it is cloth over rubber because they are so close to the block. that is why they felt so different from the others so now the question is do you really need the protection on those line or will the new lines be okay

No, you dont need the cloth protection, high quality silicone or rubber lines will be just fine. I was just suggesting that you may be able to get a deal on some lines of amazing quality if you try the dealer.

new silicone lines will be okay, esp the ht ones...they are heat resistent to like some crazy temp...the extra heat protection never hurts, but you'll be okay with the HT silicone lines or Volvo lines...shoot, my original volvo lines lasted atleast 75k miles on stock boost next to the engine, so I don't see why new ones wouldnt last long either...

Theres a bunch. For an exact count, theres a handy diagram on the underside of the hood of the car.
