Synthetic or nothing, BIATCH!

I like Amsoil  but dammit if Costco didn't go and start carrying that Sim-Thetic Mobile 1 for a darn fine Costco price.  Mobile 1 for me now baby!

Castrol should be fine. I used it for many years before going with Mobile 1. It seems that Castrol is more of a marketing company now than a oil company.

BTW Mobil 1 is synthetic only.

Yeah, I found that out when I looked around for Mobil 1 at Kragen in non-synthetic form.

I think the whole syn oil thing is a crock. show me a quantifiable test/result that shows any actual improvement vs. good clean petroleum based oil and I'll start using the high$ stuff. Otherwise, $.99 a quart chevron oil is perfect. I like to change oil often and for $10 a pop, oil and filter (don't even get started on filters) I can do it every couple of months. It is good to get under your car once in a while! Big buck oil is not going to give you more power or better economy or a longer lasting engine. For that matter, if you believe all the marketing(which is what synthetic oil is all about) you should use duralube for a couple thousand miles and then just drain the oil and forget about it. I've seen it on TV!! I am now waiting for bottled Argon gas ( make that synthetic Argon) for my tires, you know better low temperature pressure stability and longer high temperature molecular bonding and of course, it eliminates non inert valve stem seal failures. Quit spending $5 a quart on oil and you can quit looking for the "best $47 tires around" and start using something in/on your car that willmake a difference.

laird, do research theirs plenty, or better yet run your car hard for 5k miles on each oil and then rub it between your fingers, wait you wont be able to w/ the dino oil it'll be like ear wax.

the changing over thing has to do w/ mixing the two oils i believe, some of the additives are more acidic esspecially when combined and like to eat through gaskets. Also you can usually get away w/ using a thinner syn oil which is good but will move thriough the gaskets easier.

Ah. The old rub it between my fingers test. I'm not sure what you mean by run it hard for 5000 miles, you mean like 200 laps at Nurburgring or 20,000 trips down the 1/4 mile? Seriously, if your oil is turning to wax then there are some major blow by or over temp issues with your engine.

As far as ear wax goes, I find once it gets up to operating temperature.....
