Ok...very confused about how this site works...I"m trying to reply to "legbend", who posts a question about brake physics.
Here's the deal: yes, it would be great to increase the surface area of contact between the brake pad and the rotor...
or...you can increase the force applied...
think of it like this: grab the handle of your tire iron right near the bend, and try to remove the wheel bolts from your car...
...I'll wait...
...how ya doin?
...now, slip a piece of pipe over the end of your tire iron, so as to increase it's lenght, and remove your wheel bolts...effortlessly...
the caliper brace moves the pads further out from the rotational center...
What the 302mm rotors do is effectively increase the mechanical advantage...you get a longer handle on the brake force...you don't need as much effort to get the same force, and you generate much less heat in the process, which is disipated faster by the increased working surface area.
A little bit of diameter makes an exponential difference...
pie are round; cornbread are squared.

But i want to buy( 320 mm) front brake kit. But it is too much money.. $1,271 usd
$1200 for a 320mm brake upgrade, that does not seem to much to me, especially that it uses VOLVO OEM parts.
1200. oh yeah.. if you will buy my rims, i will have exactly 1200! but 1200 alone is too much money for me.

Eurosport Tuning has the 302mm upgrade and its cheaper than IPD and you have options. You get Greenstuff pads with your choice of rotors.

I think i've got the 320mm disks on my car. It's the dual-ventilated disk found on the S80 T6.
The Unregistered guest put it perfectly, using the same caliper and pads, only further out from the axis of rotation, together with the increaced cooling, the bigger disks work brilliantly. Stopping from 180k/h to 30k/h repeatedly on a track, 6 laps later, i still had no brake fade.
I don't believe the 320mm disks will fit in a 16" rim tho.

As you can see, there's not alot of clearance on my 17" with the caliper.

I think the S80's also only came with 302mm brakes and not 320mm, but I could be wrong.

Actually considering the price the kit that FCPGroten sells is better, it includes stainless steel brake lines, all you have to do is add the Caliper brackets for about $150-$200 for the pair depending on where you get it and you still come out ahead.
