ive got a volvo 850 GLT and have been thinking of upgrading my speakers. Im not really interesting in having kicks or subwoofers or amps as that would become to costly.
Ive already got a decent cd player in my car (JVC KD-SX998r) (4x50w, 4v out) and was wondering if i will actually notice a difference(as in louder and better sound quality if upgrade the stock speakers in the front and back seats?
If so what speakers would be good to get? Im not sure if my budget of 250-270 euros (320-350 dollars) will get me anywhere?
thanks for the info smile.gif

Yes you will notice a difference. You should expect to pay around 100 to 150 dollars a pair for decent speakers. Infinity, Kenwood, and so on. Read some of the pinned topics in the Audio Forum for some Ideas. biggrin.gif

I might have a pair of infinity reference speakers for sale soon... I'm upgrading to the kappa line. As far as your back speakers are concerened you won't really notice a difference with them off. I gutted the speakers out of my boxes and just placed the black boxes back on the rear deck.

I completely disagree! Those back speakers are the only source of lower bass in my car. If I turn those off all I hear are the attempts at low bass made by my front speakers. Don't get rid of the back speakers unless you are setting up a subwoofer, otherwise it won't sound good at all.

I have a stock setup.

I thought you meant the rear deck smile.gif not the doors. I actually don't have any speakers in my rear doors, and I never knew that they weren't there, lol. But I was just saying that my rear deck speakers give me all the bass until I get my system.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut you're getting kicks and subs right? So that means that you shouldn't need rear deck. laugh.gif Yah, the speakers are 5 1/4" Infinity Reference.

Rear deck speakers are back by the 3rd tail light (right behind the headrests in the rear seats). They're inside of those two boxes. You need torx wrenches to take them out. As far as the rear door, there really is no size speaker that fits there (thank your Volvo). And the front doors you can basically fit any 5 1/4" speaker into. A good majority of people on this board who want a good cheap speaker have gone with infintiy reference which you can just go get at your local best buy or circuit city.

If you don't care about your passenger at the back, Boston Acoustics would be a good choice for $320-350 (for front speakers only). Dont get focal, they really suck (Thats why i move it to the back/rear).

Or

get infinity reference, and upgrade the whole system front and rear (US $80/pair)
