Hey gang,

I've been wondering which turbos would be suitable upgrades from the 15G's. I know a lot of ppl opt for the 19T, but would a 16G bolt right in? These are readily available form all sorts of Mitsubishi message boards and the like. Is anybody running one? Lemme know! Thanks!

16g is a TD05 exhaust housing. Some of them (Ones with regular T3 style flanges) with some modding of the exhaust manifold can be made to work....

if you're willing to get creative it can be done. You'd want to track down a mitsubishi td05-12b turbo that was used on the 740 and 760 turbo volvo's in 1988 and 1989. Then you'd need to have the 12b compressor housing ported out and have a 16g compressor wheel mounted in it, or you can separate the turbine and compressor housings and mount the DSM 16g compressor housing and wheel on the volvo td05 turbine housing. At this point you'd want to port out the td05 turbine housing and also i guess the exhaust manifold a little bit, just to get the most flow out of the bigger turbo. With this turbo you'll be pushing quite a bit more air and it will probably spool a little slower because of the bigger turbine section, but probably not too noticeable if it can be tuned correctly. A custom "chip" will have to be the way to go because there are no off-the-shelf chips for up-sized turbos other than the more common 19t swap. However if you have the means of tuning it sufficiently it will push LOTS of air and perform mighty fine.

hehe...well, I have a Mitsu truck, and I've met a few people form my racing days who tune DSM's. 16G's are tossed around quite a bit if you look around the Talon/Eclipse racing circles. I see them all over the place.

So what I'm hearing is...the 16G will NOT bolt right in. I will need to modify, replace, or build a custom exhaust manifold. sad.gif That's a bummer.

What options are there for direct bolt-on upgrades? Would anything that uses a TD-05 housing, as opposed to the 15G's TD-04 housing, require a different exhaust manifold? And if so, are there any tuners who have already fabricated these manifolds? unsure.gif
