Everyone talks about Boost controllers, air fuel controllers, ect ect . While this area has not been explored much its hard to really find the best way to tune your car. There is the standard Flash, and prom upgrades done by many of the ecu tuners for the volvo market. Custom Tuning is becoming more important as alot of you guys are wanting to make some good power and are worried about chip tuning.
You have your 4.3,4.4 and me7 ecus. what are the limitations ? Its been proven the stock ecu system can work very well but when some people ask for the "19T" map or "a custom file". I would like to get into what really needs to be done.
For instance you are installing a 19T turbo what map do you ask for? Whom to do get the map from? Upsolute and Rica both are a good option. The posts really explains where to start.
1. Injectors size is the first thing they will need to know. Anything over 450cc or so will require that be done first. Make sure they know what you are looking for and what other parts you have. Then start a forsay 18psi and work on getting the correct fuel maps. This may take many times but we got it right on the 2nd -3rd map on my 01 C70.
2. Once they provide you what i call a "base map" you need to get fuel charts and set the fuel curve. Once this is done you are at a good point to raise boost once again if you have the right parts and then you go through the fuel tuning game again.I will share alot of my tuning results with you to show more of what i mean. I just figured i would take the time to tell you and figured this would be a good place to post info.

I want to get my Upsolute re-tuned for my 19T (I have one of Bill's 19T maps), but I really don't want to wait for weeks and weeks while the ECU is shipped to the tuner, re-tuned and shipped back. I've had this "base map" on my relatively heavily modified car (stock motor tho). The map was also set for orange injectors and now I am running blue injectors.
Can anyone who re-tunes gaurentee a quick turnaround on the ECU and arrange for 1 or 2 day shipping?
If so I'll go to a dyno or get a/f charts ASAP.

As long as I know Unichip is doing custom mapping on the dyno. I have talked to a distribuyer in Izmir they are connecting the car to a dyno and load the zero map and then accelerate by 1000 rpms. after that they reload the map and custumize it. Depending on the car this 1000 rpm steps might go as low as 250 rpms.

I have an upsolute place within 2 miles of my house. Drive in, drive out tuning. But I'm not gonna get my chip from them.

That is why I had my ECU socketed for my chip that way all my local tuner had to do was send my A/F maps in to Austria via E-mail and then he would burn a new chip for me to try out and I would install it in the socket.

My Upsolute Dealer Sonny Lowe did the work for me. He unsolders the original Eprom and then solders in its place the eprom socket. The regular Eprom then inserts into the socket, the eprom can be taken off without having to be unsoldered and resoldered again, etc. He does very good work, I would highly recommend him anytime.
An EXAMPLE is it like this WITHOUT all the resistors, wires, etc. The bottom piece is the socket, the top part inserted is the EPROM.

I would sure hope that it does not look like that. GOOD LORD that is an electrical hack job if i ever saw one.
Is there duct tape and zip ties on that ECU somewhere too?! Glad thats not your ECU.
