I'm currently running a slightly modified stock return line on my 35R. By modified, I mean that I enlarged the bolt holes and shaved the flange down a bit since it was a tight fit. I have oil leaking from where the drain meets the turbo. I have recently replaced the gasket and tried my best to ensure the flange is flat, but I still have a drip.

I'm thinking of loosening the turbo bolts to allow the center section to swivel and then re-tightening the drain bolts to ensure that the turbo is indeed correctly clocked and the two mating surfaces are flush. Past that, i'm thinking of just making a new turbo return using the ATP oil drain flange from that I have, some braided line and maybe the end of the stock tube where it enters the block.

Thoughts? Comments?

Post your oil return setups, preferably with pics. smile.gif

damn Mark, that sucks.....

What Aaron did on mine is he took my stock return line, cut it as needed, and welded it back together with the proper angulation.

I'm thinking that maybe the movement of the engine on yours OR the enlarged bolt holes are causing the issue.

try clocking the turbo again, but I don't know how much you'll be able to do that....maybe getting a stock return line and angling it properly and just cutting and welding it back together is a better option...

Let me dig through my pics to see if I have pics of mine...

This won't really help you at all, but you can see t stock line there....he just cut a small section off of it and welded it back together with the proper angulation and used the stock gasket and oring AFAIK

I would consider loosening the bolts on the drain as well as the nuts to the manifold flange. Then install a new gasket to the drain tube and tighten them down first THEN tighten the manifold nuts. This should allow the drain flange to seal properly and then you "bend" the drain pipe via tightening the manifold flange nuts. I hope that makes sense.

Here is my setup for my Hahn Super 16g return line. Basically a stock line, cut and rotated a bit, then sealed back together with the flexible ATP oil return hose and two hose clamps. I went with the hose rather than a weld because the hose gives me rotational as well as a length adjustment on the fly if I needed it when installing the turbo.

Push the pipe in the block before tightening the hose.
