Its easy on all cars regardless of the year. But its totally retarded unless your car is never left unattended.

i was thinking either a setup where the key is still required to be in the ignition (and the button only turns the starter) -or- where under the dash (tucked away) i have a connector with a 1/8" tall gap about 1" wide , in order for the circuit to be complete a metal "key" that is the same dimensions must be inserted into the slot , only then would the push button work , all i need is a custom connector that i'll fab up and a 1/8" piece of metal that i'll shape and put on a key ring , even if you had the slot out in the open as part of the dash only someone who knows the car would know to stick a piece of metal in there , and that'll only work after they bust out a window ... either they would have to know me/thecar or they would be SOL

oh and i could choose when and when not to leave the metal "key" in , so only those who i choose would even know its part of the system

No he means he wants to add something else to screw him and leave him stranded on the side of the road. Fake pushbutton is right up there with fake brake calipers and hood pins.

naughty not to be a complete ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD but think before you post topics. like the mustang spoiler and ford rims. theres alot better stuff than you can do to a s60 than all the dumb stuff it sounds like your doing to your. i imagine your car looks like a poster child for pep boys. if anything it would be better to do a remote start. mine was 400 from best buy with the viper alarm plus 160 for another key and another 100 for some security transmitter box. if it helps you can fill your car with fake toggle switches that say nitrous to keep you entertained.

we do push button starters on the race cars as a good way to prime the oil system before you turn the ecu on., or if it doesnt run anymore and you need to get it on a trailer,

but chuck said it. at the end of the day it is easy, and one more thing to screw with and go wrong.

I have one. Use it to prime before start, also have one for the fuel pump. I don't have a key, and it is out in the open on a blank. If someone wants to steal it, they can smash the window and go for it. Most people who steal cars aren't looking for my beautiful bi-polar gem of a car though.

The last one I did for a guy was fairly basic and therefore straight forward. 04 model with the key integrated remote.

We removed the antenna ring from the ignition tumbler and relocated it to the cigarette lighter (obviously removed the cigarette lighter guts) and filed the opening in the antenna ring from a circle to a rectangle. We removed the metal portion of the key from the FOB so just the rectangular plastic section with the keyless buttons and immobilizer function remained.
Then wired two aircraft style toggles for ign1 and ign2 and a push button for the starter on the climate control module where the empty blank switches were.
Actually removed the ignition tumbler from the column to delete the steering wheel lock.

So to start the car he would hop in, place the FOB in the lighter receptacle, flip on the two switches and then push the start button.
By doing it this way the car was still 'somewhat' theft proof as you still needed an approved fob to start the car but no key was necessary to unlock the steering wheel or turn the ignition switch.

This did however make the car easier to steal but only marginally so.
