Is the 850 engine a interference engine? If the timing belt broke is it toast or is there a chance that survived? And if not would a new head solve the problem or a whole new motor?
Thanks!

All the white blocks are interference engines. If the belt breaks you are looking at a rebuild head ~700 minimum to get back on the road.

Is that all it generally wrecks the valves in the head? It's a 850 wagon in great condition and a 5spd manual tranny .I could pick up a used head for a couple hundred and be into the car for less than $1500.It's a 98 wagon.

The valves hit the top of the pistons. Damage can happen to both sides.
