No good deed goes unpunished. I washed my wife's S40 T5 today and decided to do the motor as well since it was full of seeds and what not left there by mice. I had backed the car out of the garage to wash it so it was fine. After washing down the motor and blowing off with compressed air I have a no start no crank situation like the starter is dead. Anybody know what can get in the way of a 07 S40 cranking when the battery is definitely fine? No codes.

Oh yeah,

Can you "roll start" one of these modern beasts by rolling and popping the clutch?

You are never supposed to wash an engine bay on a new volvo. You probably have water in one or several components like the MAF, electronic throttle or the ECM and TCM connections. I would let it sit for a day or two so it can dry out. Are there any messages in the DIM that have come up?

I assume the DIM is the message center? Yeah, it had something likee, "poor engine performance or something". Anyway, I opened a variety of clips and blew them off with the compressor and still nothing. Disconnected the battery negative for 15 mionutes and bang, back in business.

Thanks for the response, though. Man that is some serious BS that I can't get any water in there. I wonder what I'll disable when I vacuum it out.

Does anybody know if you can roll start a manual that is totally electronic like this?

Yes the DIM is the message center. If there is a engine performance message there will definitely be some trouble codes stored. I don't believe you can "kick start" a car like that, never tried though.

No modern car should have the engine washed, to many very expensive components under the hood. They were designed to work with dirt and small amounts of moisture, not gallons of water.
