I have a '95 855 Turbo. The turbo is starting to bite the dust (leaking oil into the airflow and causing the dreaded blue smoke). The car has 250k and has many other issues that would need attention. I have since replaced with a 100k 855 Turbo.
I don't believe the ailing car is worth a turbo replacement and so I'm wondering if any one has removed a turbo from the system with any success. I assume that there would need to be some way to connect the oil lines that would normally run to the turbo so it would cycle. Would one run the air intake straight from the Air Mass Meter to the throttle body or run the air through the intercooler (no longer needed)
Just checking to see if anyone has done this and if the ECU would have any trouble with this.
Thanks

Are you sure the turbo is going out and not just a clogged PVC system? I would inspect that 1st before I wrote it off as a bad turbo.
And no I don't think you can do what you want, you would probably find that you would be slower than an NA anyways. Cams, TB, exh. mani,MAF,ECU,etc...would need changed over to a NA, would be more cost effective to fix what you got IMO.

Low mileage used turbo can be had for $150 tops. There are occasionally new ones from a seller in Japan that pop up on eBay for ~ $400. It'll take a couple hours with hand tools to replace it.

Agreed. Swapping manifolds alone would cost more than rebuilding the turbo

Also you may have back pressure issues and the car will be painfully slow with the lower 8.5:1 compression, especially if the engine has some miles on it. To get an idea, take the actuator arm off of the wastegate flapper and go for a drive.

Thanks for the input. I will check the PCV system. I do know that there is oil in the intake hoses (to the throttle body) and it seems that a clogged/compromised ventilation system wouldn't do that, but I could be wrong.
Besides ebay, any suggestions for finding one of those cheap, low-miles turbos?
Thanks
