After blowing up at Portland International Raceway at the end of June, I was without the car for 3 weeks.

R-Sport International offered to take my car from the track and store it until I could come down and retrieve it.

A week later I was able to go down with Mitch to get the car.

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

The plan was to swap in a used engine to get the car back on the road. 94 engine with 129k on it.

Spent a lot with FCP for all new timing belt, tensioners, pulleys, etc. All new cam and crank seals also. Ordered the PCV system, but after look at this engine it appeared to be brand new so we didn't install it.

Tearing down the new engine.

While I am working on the new engine, Danny and crew are dropping the old one.

I was just going to run stock tune on it with the 15g (swapping the exhaust housing of course) since the turbo seemed fine, but then we said screw it and swapped everything over since I had all the gaskets anyway.

Carson having fun on some of Mitch's toys.

Mitch's son races this.

I am suprised that Danny could still hear after driving this. The muffler wasn't quiet at all. :)

Ok, back to work.

Wait, who the hell is this guy!??

Posted ImagePosted Image

Engine ready to go in.

At this point everyone else is gone, leaving just Kevin, Danny and I. Kevin said we ain't leaving 'til it's done.
Posted Image

Later that night we got it in and it fired up first try. I guess the Volvo tech knows what he is doing. :)

I won't mention what he forgot. ;)

I have a long list of people to thank on this one.

First off Jonathan and the rest of the R-Sport crew for helping me out at the track and storing the car for a week. Also for figuring out what caused it.
Kyle for helping me out at the track also.

Mitch for using his truck and trailer to go down to Portland and bring the car back up to his place, then letting me store it there, recieve the engine and letting us use his shop to make the swap.

Bert for finding an engine and playing middle man in the purchase.

Brian (Danny's boss) from Seattle Volvo for helping out.

Gary (no idea what his last name is) from Volvo North America for helping out. The NWC likes to roll in the big dogs.

and of course Danny for his knowledge and help for such a big project. :coughkevincough:

I am probably forgetting some people also.

Oh, and here is my other car I was driving in the mean time. :)

Good to see it got done. How is the new engine holding up ? Any skeletons in its closet ?

Car looks good BTW, every time I see it I mean to tell you.

And LOL at Danny's stealth edit.

just some minor issues that I haven't tracked down yet. It doesn't smoke, so value seals are still good.

It had Volvo plugs in it, so you could assume it was dealer maintained, but the oil return line had gasket sealant on it, which isn't right so difficult to say.
